Panthers Gauging Trade Interest

Everyone loves McD now that he's gone as well as Wilks but they played as much of a part in player decisions as Rivera if not more. But it's just trendy to pike on Rivera because.

The blame for every decision is conveniently shifted around. Now that GMAN is gone anything he had a hand in is now being placed on Rivera.

I'm a big fan of Andy Lee, but Palardy has been looking very decent.  If we can find someone to trade for Lee and give us a pick, I think I'd be pretty cool with it.  It would free us cap space (I think, I haven't checked OTC or Spotrac) and we get younger at the position, potentially giving us a promising punter for years rather than having to find another in 1 - 2 years when Lee's contract is done.

I agree DG probably overpaid for Lee last year, but we were quite desperate for a punter at the time, so it was a case of do what you got to do.  For sure last offseason was NOT Gettleman's best.  He too was affected by the Superbowl hangover, for sure.  But he sure made up for it this offseason...

Gettleman did a lot of good things for us, but I have 4 major complaints, probably in this order.

1. Essentially ignoring the OT position for years.

2. Rolling with a CB corps consisting almost entirely of rookies last year.

3. Drafting physical specimens who represent his ideal images of a WR instead of drafting you know, actual WRs.

4. Trading a 4th rounder for an aging punter.

It was a 4th rounder two years away which is why it was such a high draft pick. Still not a great trade value wise, but either way, look at our history with 4th round picks and it's not like they've ever amounted to anything. Seems like the best one we ever drafted was Williams and he's probably going to lose his job to Moton sooner or later.

And I've said it before and I'll say it again, the OT position was not ignored except for the year after Gross retired. Anything else is revisionist history, and there were mitigating circumstances for why it was not prioritized. Based on the cap situation we were in, we could not afford a decent OT in free agency and all the ones that people wanted to draft or sign ended up sucking anyway. At least with what we rolled with we didn't hurt ourselves financially for the future. When we were better equipped financially to address the situation he put together a serviceable tandem in Oher and Remmers that took us to the super bowl while keeping Cam upright the vast majority of the year. Even then it took one of the best defenses of all time to beat them. Then injuries happened last season. Don't know what people expected with 3rd and 4th stringers playing OT, but apparently we should be elbow deep in talent at OT so that many injuries don't matter.

Points 2 and 3 I can agree with you dude. I wanted Allen Robinson sooooooo badly but we got KB instead. I think we got hosed on that one.

Did we draft physical specimens for WRs or did we draft tall WRs because Cam consistently throws over his target receiver?

I wasn't just talking about KB and Funchess. Samuel was a jack of all trades in college who probably played more RB than WR.

Always remember, Allen Robinson went right after we picked Kony Ealy :fear:

And no hindsight is not 20/20, I thought FOR SURE we were picking ARob when he fell to us in the 2nd. Still feels bad man.

Not being a hater. Just going from what I've seen in the past with Rivera. He is sometimes to loyal to veterans when a younger talent is out playing them. He is a bit to slow sometimes to realize when a change is needed. Thats all I'm saying.

I agreed to certain degree but he was limited with the given talent and rolled with what was familiar.

This is an all in year nothing is going to hold Rivera & Hurney back from fielding the best Roster.

God, I remember that. I remember we were really high on him too. I seriously expected A Rob to be the pick without a doubt. I was pissed.

I don't care what Rivera says, Gano didn't magically grow a pair and learn to kick under pressure.  Lee is the best player of the four by far.  If last year's injury is going to be a nagging problem, then so be it.  He's done.  Palardy was ok last year, I got no gripes with him.  If we move forward with him because he's younger, I'm on board.  But at K, if Butker isn't beating out Gano it's not because Gano is all of a sudden so awesome.  It's because Butker was a bad pick.  In my humble opinion.
