Would you trade for Jimmy Graham?

The Panthers are without their best receiving option for about a month and a half or so. Cam Newton has struggled so far throwing the ball, and taking away his best pass catcher won't help the matter. As of now, the Panthers really don't have a good pass catching tight end on the roster.

There are rumblings that Graham would be available for the right offer. He's never been a good fit in Seattle, and with his cap number, would probably come pretty cheap.

Pros:

- Did you know he played basketball? He can catch very well!

- Still moves pretty well despite the surgery, and is only 30. He has a few years left in him.

- Is a UFA after this year, so he is off the books. One and done

- Would be relatively cheap in a trade. That leads me to the...

Cons:

- has a 7.9 mil cap hit, so call it like 6.9 ish mil the Panthers would owe him. Panthers have 8.5 ish in cap but that would take some finagling

- looks like he can only perform in a VERY structured offense, ie the kind they run in New Orleans. Is a little soft.

- has never once blocked in his life. that would generally instantly disqualify him from the panthers, but who the hell knows with this chicken poo offense they're running

- doesn't know any of the plays and would likely need some time to acclimate. The Panthers don't have a bye until November, so its difficult to see how much he could realistically contribute before Olsen got back

- the man in charge of this would be Marty Hurney, and this move comes with the risk of it working out well.

So there you have it. I conservatively see 9 wins on this schedule; Panthers probably make the playoffs as a WC. Do you think flags fly forever and its worth the risk? Or does the potential reward not outweigh the probable consequences, ie Marty Hurney sending us into complete cap hell, bereft of draft picks, from whence we shall not return for a million upon million generations

Luke Wilson might be more feasible but he's a Seattle glue guy

there are a handful of decent backup TEs sitting out there right now though

Dwayne Allen, Vernon davis, Vance McDonald are all serviceable upgrades who aren't contributing because they're stuck behind better players, Wilson included among them

The team needs to do something.

I rather pickup Luke Wilsom who can do both and brings a rugged attitude.
