2 adjustments should always be made.

1) to your available personnel, their strength and weaknesses. build to strengths. work around weaknesses. for example, OT has been a weakness of cam for a while so...quit putting him in situations where he has to rely on them for so long. i don't care what your philosophy or grand master plan is or how brilliant you are. if you can't do the above, you shouldn't have your job. chud was never aware of even who was on the field in any situation. he threw plays out there regardless of whether they fit the personnel on the field or not and making the assumption that they all should be capable of the same things might be ideal, but it's unrealistic naive.

2) to your opponents. one thing that fox was horrible about was looking at the opponents strengths and planning to ram heads with their strengths rather than go after a weakness. if a team was great at stopping the run, we focused on running the ball. might show you've got balls, but so does a 6'2 120lb drunk russian kid taking on a 2400lb bull. I dont think shula is that bad, but i don't think that he makes adjustments. when you see that some team is beating you like crazy on the edges and getting to your QB regularly on your long drawn out pass plays, stop doing it. its that simple. find an alternate plan that gives you a chance of success.

the manager that puts 100% of their trust in their plan going into a venture and sticks to it come hell or high water is destined for one thing, failure.

i think he wants to prove it will still work. fox did the same thing.

i think to a large degree, shula's failing is rivera's failing and vice versa. i don't know who it is that is making the decision to change nothing, but right now i don't get the sense that this evolution was anything more than dreams without either the true intention or ability to make it happen.

Fwiw, our offense played as well as the Broncos offense did.  Our offensive line couldn't block Von Miller and Demarcus Ware, both potential hall of famers.  Their offensive line couldn't block Kony Ealy.  We made more all around mistakes than they did.  Poor tackling on a punt return, missed field goal, and most importantly, turnovers.  That cost us the game.  Nothing else.

BTW, Are you folks slamming on Shula aware that he's been awarded OC of the year twice in the last 5 years? It doesn't appear NFL folks agree with your opinions.

 

If nfl folk actually thought he was worth a damn, he'd be a head coach. OC of the year twice in five years and you still don't get any interviews? That should be a huge red flag

      Me and you clearly have different definitions of production. If you remove the 2023 season where Thielen had just over 1k yards he is 43rd on our all time receivers list just ahead of Jonathan Mingo. And before you ask why would we remove that season? Well a couple reasons. For one thing we won a whopping 2 games. And for the biggest. Thielen was 14th in targets in 2023. We absolutely force fed him the ball all season and finished with the 32nd passing offense. For comparison sake 33 year old Jerricho Cotchery eclipsed over 1k total yards in just 2 more games and with 67 less targets than Thielen did in that 2023 season. He has above average hands. That's it. We overpaid him because we were desperate and overvalued him. That's the reality no matter how many times you or anyone else wants to quote me and get defensive about it.

      He's played great and it was a win-win (rare free agent) for both parties.  One of the points is he hasn't made enough difference to "waste" 35 million on. Another point is by the time Panthers are hitting their prime, he would have taken snaps away from young WRs/TEs/RBs. "Thus" in the long term, hurting the teams new future "window."  But I dare think of the monkey poo of a offense the Panthers had without him the past 2 years. Lack of talent leads to many problems, including paying a 35 year old to be somewhat respectable. Hes one of few that cared enough and made a effort. Plus you know he's done great stuff in many other ways for the team, community juggernaut, leadership, etc.  Judgement is for AT and his 3 year panther career!!

      But it has gotten a little wacky. RBs-https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/contracts/_/position/rb     A couple months ago iggles made Bark the highest guaranteed RB, jeanty was until then. That's what matters the guarantee. A rookie never played a down was the leader, until iggles howie made things right.  If a safety gets drafted in the top 8 or so, he would have the highest money too or very close to it.    Add in TEs and C too.    Even with the fixed %, the numbers are getting too much for a player that's not proven themselves.     Plus anytime a QB is drafted it screws up the contracts for players around and if next year a punter gets drafted at the same 90th spot, they want the same contract with the 5.7% increase. Teams would be laughing.    Its just reached this point. Another 10 years and I bet the vets will be crying.
