PANIC THREAD: Our passing game is now flowing through a rookie RUNNING BACK

Through 3 games the offense has now managed to score a whopping 3 touchdowns.

A change needs to be made now or you can say hello to 6-10 again.

I don't know if this is a six win team right now.  I'm having a hard time circling wins on this remaining schedule.

But I'm sure we'll falter to like a 2-8 start, then somehow finish 7-9 to save Rivera and Shula's jobs then we'll just watch everything again next year

And I hate to say it, but Cam's shoulder certainly isn't up to snuff right now. Cam's long ball was always a strong part of his game. So far, this season, anything over 15 yards in the air either sails high or wobbles like a wounded goose. I hope he's on an arc of getting better and this is just part of the process. If not, we're not a team built for playing the small game.

But that rookie RB did net 101 yards today in the air. That's not what you want to happen, but it's there at least.

With the injuries to Olsen and Benjamin, this is now the case

Let's collectively

PANIC

We need to get Manhertz & Dickson involved in the underneath stuff, Cam can't only have the CMC as the quick dump off.

Use Samuel, Byrd & Funchess for the deep routes to stretch the secondary.

The injuries, play calls, lack of a plan, coaching, etc. are all BAD. However, just as I and many others thought, using that so called rookie "running back" more often as a receiver proved to be the right move. 75% catch rate today that should have been higher with at least one pass early on in the damn dirt. 100 plus yards, and he almost got the elusive first NFL TD. I'd take 10 to 1 on a bet that with Edelman out, BB/TB could take CMC as is with 13 games left and he would have 2000 yards this year. In the run game, he is not getting any help from the booth to the field, but in the passing game, he doesn't need much, if any. Like Smitty once said, "just throw me the ball." Even with every starter healthy, that was never going to happen with Shula calling the plays, Cam making bad throws, locking on to others, etc., and Ron being Ron.

One thing I noticed today that you see live, but don't on TV, is just how often he's open for a sure 5 to 7 yards plus. Excluding plays that are 100% called runs, I'm only slightly exaggerating when I say that today, it was every single snap. Through the 3rd, I recall two or three plays where an LB or S was close by, or easily could have run to cover him before the ball arrived, had it been thrown to CMC. Now I'm afraid that this crew is going to abuse and misuse him even more, breaking his body, if not his spirit, far too early in what could be a remarkable career. I realize mine is somewhat of a knee jerk, emotional reaction after enduring a closeup view of one of the worst Panthers games I've seen, but it's not out of the question with this bunch.

A change to what?  What you see is what you get until the season is over.

I just made a thread about it, here's a recap.

Moton or Silatolu need to get reps at left tackle.

Someone needs to be brought in to help fill Greg Olsen and possibly Kbs void.

Cam shouldn't be playing until he can make it through practice

After a start this bad Shula should be fired.

If Cam doesn't play the rest is moot.  But I'll play.

We are stuck with what we have at oline until there's an injury, Ron will see to that.

We have enough receiving options still available so there's absolutely no need there.

Firing Shula now, even though long overdue, will not do anything to improve this team as long as Ron dictates the tempo of the game.  Ron would only promote Dorsey so it could get worse, if that's possible.

    • Love the Freeling pick even more after watching his pressers. Dude is sharp and definitely seems to have the right mentality. I loved hearing how personal he took having a bad game with a torn labrum and instead of seeing that as the reason for his bad game and not changing anything, it motivated him to work even harder. Such a great pick, we finally got our all pro level LT for the next decade and now we can move Ickey to RT or guard with no hurt feelings due to his injury. Second favorite pick is probably Brazzell. He said he false started on his 40 and it cost him probably 0.04 seconds, so he’s more of a 4.33 guy rather than 4.37. Really Randy Moss lite. I didn’t know anything about him prior to drafting him and first highlight reel I saw of him I immediately thought he looked like Moss. Then I saw the measurables and was like yep. Then I see that he’s drawn that comparison by many scouts and analysts. If he can add consistency and play to the level of his highlights every play then we got an incredible value.
    • During his three years at UGA he only allowed 5 sacks. He is only 21 and is on an upward trajectory. He's a great athlete that was good basketball player in high-school.  His height (76% how is this only 76%???? these guys are giants now), hands (81%), span (99%), speed (96%), quickness (10 yd. 86%), and explosiveness (vert. 96%, broad 97%) are all outstanding.  When we took Freeling, Fano, Mauioga, Proctor, and Miller were all off the board so we could have drafted Iheanachor or Lomu instead or waited to the second or third round to take Bell, Tiernan or Barber or wait even longer.  A lot of these tackles (including the first two taken) project to right tackle or guard in the NFL and that's not what we needed now.  Freeling has some sloppiness to clean up in his run blocking, but he's young and getting better.  We can let him get experience behind Walker and Moton knowing if he has to replace one of the two this year, his pass blocking won't get Bryce killed. Icky's not coming back from that injury as a nfl starting left tackle and Moton is in the twilight of his career.  If Walker has a great year, we will have to pay him a lot and if he is medicore we would want to let him walk.  Getting a LT on a rookie contract is going to help a lot with the cap.
    • It was cool but they have done this at least in recent years unless I am imagining it
