Hang Shula at dawn

My favorite Shula play calls: second and goal, Dickson and Shepherd are running routes into the endzone with KB and Funchess on the sideline. We went on to kick a field goal. "This will really fool them. I bet they won't even cover Dickson and Shepherd. No one is dumb enough to pull out the team's best redzone threats and use 2 journeymen as the only options. Watch and learn, boys!"

Absolutely adored the throw back to 2016 with the 3 straight play calls featuring long developing routes during our 2nd to last possession. "What Eagles pass rush? The Eagles have a pass rush? O-Line will give Cam time."

Stewart dropped a screen early in the game and has played like complete ass every minute since? Better try another screen to hi.....and he pops the ball into the air, facilitating an interception. "Christian McCaffrey ain't got nothing on Jonathan Stonehandswart."

neither shula nor rivera handle pressure well.

we definitely need to move on. i think the play design is fine, but the play calling and game management sucks.

can someone with more football IQ than me please tell me why it's necessary to run on first down? what's the benefit? I mean is it really worth sticking to when it's obvious it's not working?

and then, after that's explained to me, then please tell me why we insist on keeping stewart in there so much? can we just move on? we can't move the ball with him and he's no good in the passing game. we drafted CMC in with the 8 spot and he's got very little mileage on him and the offense is more or less designed around him..so why not just roll with him and use stewart... i don't know....to carry the clipboard. i mean our options are limited when he's on the field and our Oline just can't block for him. let's just move on.

ok that's an overreaction but based christ if i had a nickel for every time we ran jonathan stewart up the gut for -3 on first down i'd have enough nickels to buy sanjay rajput nine tight ends

finally a post by you I can agree on. You should do more of these.... and instead of tight ends, how about buying Sanjay the rabies treatments he so desperately needs?

I'm disappointed Samuel is a non-factor in this offense. He's been injury prone and not used enough. People are completely forgetting we spent a high 2nd round pick for him

The absolutely TERRIFYING thing is that Igo has said in the past that Shula is well thought of by JR and management. The guy could probably do anything he wants this season and still be safe.

This is a really weird spot to be in as a fan. I honestly kind of feel like we have to make a run at a Super Bowl this year and then suffer through another Hurney era or we have to tank so damn badly that JR has to admit that we have to go a completely different direction. Anything in the middle I fear will lead to the worst of both. No chance at a SB this year and we're still stuck with another Hurney era... and Rivera and his dipshits. Not a fan of how conservative Rivera is as a head coach, but I'll give it up to the guy that he's knows D and brings in some great defensive minds. It's just the fact that he can't accept that Shula was a mistake, is a mistake, and will be a mistake.

    • Fowler: Bucs 23, Panthers 16. Baker Mayfield only won a single game when he was an unimpressive Carolina starter, but somehow he’s 5-0 when playing AGAINST the Panthers. For the Panthers to pull off this upset, they’ll need to score at least in the mid-20s. With Tampa Bay relatively healthy following a mini-bye (and Mike Evans’ return is huge), it feels like this will be too tough a task. Kaye: Bucs 24, Panthers 20. The win-loss-win-loss streak comes to an end. It’s hard to trust the play-calling following the loss to the New Orleans Saints. The Panthers know what’s on the line, but they also knew last week, too. It’ll be close; I just have trouble trusting a positive outcome after a defeating one on the road. Zietlow: Panthers 38, Bucs 35. This prediction goes against conventional wisdom, but then again, conventional wisdom doesn’t seem to apply to these Panthers. This group, after all, has yet to lose back-to-back contests since Weeks 1 and 2. I think they win this one to make Week 18 interesting — and yes, that’s even with motivated Baker Mayfield and future Hall of Famer Mike Evans in good form. Why not?
    • Sam developed into a different player after he mostly sat for a year and learned a ton by being in that QB room under Shannahan in San Francisco.  Then he went to the Vikings who have a poo load of talent and another genius level offensive mind at HC in Kevin O Connel. I think they genuinely built up his confidence in a way he never did in New York or Charlotte.  He would not have been the same player if he stayed here IMO. Especially if he had been involved in that disaster season with Frank Reich in 2023, that might have cooked his confidence for good.  I guess you could argue we wouldn't have been that bad if we also kept cmc and dj i guess.
    • Willis was impressive last night given the circumstances. GB and SF seem to just have it figured out as far as QB goes.   It's frustrating, but I enjoy seeing our old players find success elsewhere.
