Chances of bringing back Steve Smith?

App Panther

No I don't want it. I don't want it for the Panthers. I don't want it for Steve. I don't want it for his kids and his family.

Here's what I want: the panthers to win and Steve can't help the Panthers do that.

You know what else I want? For Steve to happy. And I don't think he will be happy playing for the Panthers at this point. He hasn't been training. he's not in shape. He said he didn't want to. He wants to take care of his kids.

Lastly, I want panthers fans to root for the panthers and be engaged with the team. I loved Steve and I always will, but as a panthers fan, I have other favorite panthers. Players who are actually playing...on the Panthers team....currently.

That's what i want

There's no way he's in football shape. This isn't like the post 2010  Terrell Owens situation when he was literally training his ass off and would jump at the first team that would sign him . Smitty has a career and has said he left for his family about a million times by now. It would make him look bad if he went back on his word and came back right now . Its pure sentimental value that would only make sense if he hadn't retired like Peppers situation. If he was just a free agent that wasnt picked up, I'd be all for it.

If you saw his interview on the Rich Eison show you'll know that if he comes back he is facing a suspension for missing some drug tests. He goes over how/why in that interview. Doubt we'd be bringing him back to ride the pine for 4-6 games or whatever it would be since it was like 3 missed tests if I remember correctly.

    • One thing I didn’t consider is how thin this draft is at quarterback. That’s going to drive up the market for backups and borderline starters like Willis, Jones, and Jameis Winston. Because of that, we’ll most likely be priced out of the market for this tier of backup.
    • We've already beat the #1 seed twice, why not one more? (Packers and Rams were both #1 seed at the time we played)
    • My determination has come down to this. Based on recent QB history, has Bryce's improvement warranted 50m per season? Lamar is the only original team QB to play on his 5th year. The others took major deals at the end of the 3rd, before or just after the option was signed. Chances are, we're getting asked for the same.  I haven't rooted for Bryce to fail. I've rooted for him to succeed so big that them signing that extension would give me no worries about our future at QB at all. We haven't seen that level of play consistently that this year. We haven't seen it in the past 6 games.  We're about to be at a threshold with Bryce and I worry about what this front office will do. We have a history of bad decision making and Morgan has been part of that group making those decisions. I don't want Carolina in the same boat Arizona and Miami are right now. It has nothing to with being right. It has to do with wanting to win for more than a single season. We've never had back to back winning seasons. Faith in their abilities is not warranted at this point.
