Gruden 10 years-100 million dollars. Yep, no joke.

So much for the Rooney rule

Is it unreasonable for a team to have their eye set on one particular head coach who used to be with the team and won a super bowl since leaving and has been very sought after the past 10 years? And they did interview minority candidates. Don't see the problem here.

I see this in the corporate world.  People get removed from the front lines of operations and suddenly become experts on everything and have all the answers to problems they never solved when they were actually in charge of doing so.  They become legends in their own minds and, over time, manage to convince the softer headed morons around them of this fact when the reality is far different.

Meh, you're worth what someone is willing to pay you, not what a bunch a no bodies at ESPN and especially not on the HUDDLE say you are.

HIs style stopped working because that was the same time everyone went into bitch mode and cried when someone yelled at them. He was(dunno how he will be now) the yelling disciplinarian type of coach of old and definitely started to wear thin with the new age little bitches that got ribbons for showing up to anything and everything. I will say he was pretty condescending in a lot of those micced up clips so he can't bring that to the table and expect to last but we'll see.

It wasn't just that.

He's been hyped as a quarterback guru, but what quarterback did he ever develop? Chris Simms is the closest he could call to a student of his, and Simms never actually turned into an NFL level QB.

When Gruden was winning as a coach, he had quarterbacks that someone else trained (Rich Gannon, Brad Johnson). After Johnson retired, Gruden began continuously shuffling starters.  He never stuck with anyone long enough for them to really establish themselves and no one ever developed anything resembling chemistry with their offensive teammates.

Now he goes and takes over for Derek Carr after Carr has already been trained by someone else, but there's word Carr may not get along with him.  If he does, I'm sure Gruden will take all the credit.  Lord knows he's done plenty to rehab his image after taking over a Super Bowl quality team and running them into the ground.

It's cool that the Raiders think he's their guy, but the guy the Raiders are paying for doesn't really exist.

    • Got to give some credit to the coaching staff on these. You can grab top talents but without good coaching, they just fizzle out. We've seen that a lot around here.
    • Oh, no TV for tonight's game unless you have the NHL Network, I believe. I could be wrong, hopefully?
    • Early returns are great and exciting but also worth noting that Gettleman had a few drafts that looked incredible early on and wound up mostly sucking (2014 mainly). Also PFF; grain of salt, etc.    I'm completely sold on Tet being a stud, knocked a high pick out of the park like we needed to and always should. Nearly sold on Scourton. Not sold on Princely but he had flashes. Not sold on Etienne as more than a 3rd stringer and special teamer, but that's not terrible for his draft position. Big fan of Ransom and think he'll be a starter.  Cam Jackson : IDK, I see limited upside but we didn't see much of him Evans was a nice find for draft position and he had a great rookie year for a late round rookie TE with plenty of veteran competition. Not sure about his upside though, seems like best case is a long term #2/3 TE, which isn't bad. Jimmy Horn, personally I didn't see a damn thing from him that impressed me all year. And he got a lot of opportunities. Pulling for the kid, but not convinced he's an NFLer.   UDFA: Fitzgerald was an amazing find
