Marcus Ball: JR Ordered My Release Because of Anthem Gesture

Ball suggested using the team platform as a form of protest. That’s the issue from day one.

It’s similar to logging into your company social media account and protesting a topic. Even if you state who you are.

its just not the place to protest. Do like everyone else and protest your cause the way the rest of us do.

This is America, not Soviet Russia or some damned Third World country where despotism is the norm.  If you want to sit, kneel or raise your damned fist in protest, or simply not participate in the so-called national anthem,  then that is your right.

Maybe Gettleman wasn’t as bad as I thought. It’s just a thought, but I imagine Gettleman really liked Ball as a player. Bringing Ball back could have in fact been going against JR’s wishes.

It might not have been the only conflict.

Imagine you're a GM, and not only are you having to adjust player decisions because of an owner being a douchebag, but you also just lost the services of a good, experienced scout thanks to said douchebag addressing him with a racial slur?

You probably wouldn't be too happy.

Wow so its not just a Cam thing how many players on our team has long dredlocks other than Boston and KB last year?

Just off the top of my head, at some point: Shaq Thompson, Chris Gamble, Greg Hardy, Deangelo Williams, Julius Peppers, Charles Tillman

There is a difference in acting on your own, as opposed to trying to plan a protest. If he did get fired for that, then it was warranted. It’s not like they are acting like “Soviet Russia.” Its pretty cut and dry. While you are work there are a lot of rights you have to suspend... what makes this different?

we have a lot of rights, but there is also something called professionalism. It doesn’t matter what the movement is, the botttom line is that if you work for someone you exemplify their brand, and if you elect to act on your own while representing that brand, don’t be shocked to lose your job.

I don't like tattoos, but it's not like I care if someone has one. On the other hand I can see why he'd  want a clean cut guy as the face of his off. There are tons jobs that force people to cover them up and take out nose rings etc.

Not everything dislike has to be in a vacuum. People aren't racist cause they don't like tattoos and such... statiscs say it's bad business. It just is.

I won't reply again in this thread so don't get all high and moral and tell me I'm wrong, just stating an opinion.

Yes you are correct...you will not get thrown in jail for your actions

but your employer or owner can also say your actions will not take place while on company time or you can work at another company

It depends on who the employer is, and/or the degree to which their is a relationship with that employer with the government.

Not anywhere close to the same things

All you militants are unbelievable

a football team is NOT the place to spew what ever social commentary you choose

go wave your protest signs somewhere else

a football team is whatever the players want it to be. without players there is no team. they will do what they want.

Of course you think that it's professional to support a racist anthem, but I don't. I think that it's highly unprofessional, unsavory, and hypocritical.

It's ludicrous that people try to equate the flag with service members---service to the country and the like. They were never the same, and people who can't discriminate between the two are contentious, pretentious, and/or daft. It's as simple as that.
