This fan base has fallen off a cliff when it comes to this Norv Turner hatred

I have thought the same thing about all the vitriol that you among others said about Shula. I will support whoever we hire just like I did Shula and Wilks even thought I felt Shula was decent and Wilks struggled.  Now you know how I have felt and why I responded over the years the way I did.

The biggest problem is most people dont understand what they are looking at when watching a game, nor do they consider that game plans often use plays that set up other plays later on. Other than the obvious run/pass play, sack, tackle, int, fumble, punt or score, the majority of football fans are clueless about what is actually happening on the field. The next biggest problem is that there are too many platforms in which to voice these ignorant thoughts to the public, then some fallacy gets repeated a few times and people begin to believe it (ie long developing routes). The worst problem is people act like it is easy. Lastly, people prefer to blame people who dont even step on the field rather than their favorite players who underperform.

I think at the VERY least, Norv can atleast get our offense back to how it looked in 2015. In my opinion, 2015 was peak Shula, that was the BEST Shula will EVER be and at his 100% potential, I expect this offense under Norv to easily atleast be able to match 2015's offense which is fine by me.

What a ridiculous outlook. We were number 1 in scoring averaging over 30 points a game with a fantastic red zone offense. To say that Norv can easily match that or do even better is fantasy land thinking. Be prepared to be very disappointed. 2015 was the most points we scored as a franchise in our history. Talk about setting yourself for failure.

My hang up with Norv comes from watching almost all his games as the head coach for the Chargers due to being a huge Felipe Rios fan. While the offense could and did look unstoppable at times, I saw a lot of the same things that happened here with Shula. Drives stalling in the redzone, long stretches of nothing but 3 and outs, and a very predictable run game. When he caught fire calling plays though, it was a beautiful thing to watch. I remember an AFC divisional game against the Colts where Rivers got hurt and the backup had to go in. Dude called one of most brilliant series I've ever seen to win them the game. You could practically see his hair catch fire on the sidelines.

I think coaching Cam will be a breath of fresh air for him. It's a unique challenge with the opportunity to fully tap the potential of maybe the most athletically gifted QB to ever play the game. It's a chance to bookend his career that started off with Super Bowls and cement his legacy as one of the greatest offensive minds in the game. If he's up for the challenge, it could be a fantastic hire.

There's not a doubt in my mind that Ron will not be around after this extension is up and hopefully before.  Gettleman was going to let him hang himself with the Shula rope which he absolutely did and would have been fired for if we hadn't fuged that whole situation up.  Ron will live and (more likely) die by his own guys.  This will be another instance of that.  We should have fired Rivera years ago when we had the chance.

lol...if what you say about Gman is true...which i very much doubt...then he was more a douche than even i imagined...here let me lay it out for you, the 2 year extension is the remaining window we have to win with this basic group...after that will be a new rebuild of the core of this team , which naturally assumes new coaches as well.

to piggyback off that, I expect Norv to also be able to recognize when something simply is NOT working and make adjustments as necessary. Something Shula has never been able to do.

The problem is not making adjustments because both teams do that back and forth every game. Shula made plenty of adjustments throughout the game. It usually comes down to a half dozen plays that turn a game. If you win those plays you win, if not you lose. The problem with most adjustments is that you wouldn't recognize them when you see them. Most times you see the result of the play not the elements which made it successful or not.

Being a head coach =/= being a coordinator

This is not hatred. There is actual evidence that Norv Turner has struggled. Panther fans are looking for a fresh start. A fresh mentality that will help us win. A new approach that will utiltize our personnel. Nobody thinks Norv Turner is an idiot, but we have actual historical data to be frustrated about.

Alot of this just seems to be the fallout of an organization that is searching for an identity. If Norv is the guy, we want him to do well..... but its not like we don't have reason to be skeptical.

A fresh start is a fresh start. Plus, if Shula was using a watered down version of Norv's offense, what harm could it do to bring in the real deal? Cam is no Bridgewater by far. I'm sure he can make it work, so I'm not worried about what he did in Minneapolis. Plus it'll help keep this team from floundering next season while learning the new O. I'm more worried about getting the needed personnel to help Cam. When I see these JAGS snatching balls out of the air and our guys consistently trying to make body catches, it gets frustrating and makes me question our scouts and other talent evaluators.
