That's last season my friend.   This coming season is a different story with too many variables still up in the air.  I'll wait before I venture to guess their chances of going all they way.

Sure, every season is different, and we could indeed be worse next year.  But irt the team itself, there aren't likely to be a lot of changes, and in truth, not many are necessary.  IMO, just adding a safety, a defensive end, and replacing any players that leave might be enough to make us a legit sb contender.

One concern I have for this possibility is quite frankly there would be a high chance of him going to ARZ now. Wilks is his guy so if wash did get out from him I could see it being btwn us and ARZ

Nah, I just read he was on WFNZ the other day and was happy for Wilks as his former position coach, but said we were in good hands with Washington.  He said Washington is a motivator, says he gets everyone going and hyped up.  He also said he still stays in touch with a ton of Panther players on the regular.   I really hope Washington cuts him...  it would only be right to get him back.

I don’t see Washington cutting him. I think they will let Breeland walk with that new extension they gave Dunbar and roll with Norman and Dunbar. Don’t get me wrong, if they cut him I would love to have him back! I just don’t see it happening...

Norman’s contract says he can cut himself this offseason if he so pleases

With Wilks gone I could see him going to Arizona on a 2 year deal. Also wouldn't be surprised if he comes back here either if let go from the Redskins.

He would choose the cards over us? We have a shot at the ship zona is poop.

Seems like many in this thread have short memories.

Josh's priority two years ago was securing a big payday (can't blame him one bit).  Remember Norman telling the media that he wanted to be paid like Cam Newton?

As far as Josh's option to get out of his Redskins contract, I doubt it was included so he could take a pay cut.  I suspect Norman had hoped to light it up during his first few years in DC and parlay that performance into an even bigger payday.

At this point there is a greater chance of Norman being cut from the Redskins than there is for any pay increase.

Josh is a very good zone DB, but he has never been an elite shutdown corner.  Looks like DG was right not to pay him like he was.

Yes, it would be fantastic if Norman decided to come back to Carolina on a reasonable contract.

However, when has Josh given any indication that winning is now more important to him than the size of his paycheck?

I must have missed it if he has.

Bottom LIne:  Don't hold your breath for Norman to use his escape clause to rejoin the Panthers at a discount.

    • That is just Panthers history pain speaking.
    • From what I gather, sure it allows you more room in that you can manipulate the cap more due to smaller prorated amounts to fit salaries in, but for cap purposes, you're still on the hook for the money at the end of the day.    "ChatGPT You said: What are the advantages for NFL teams to sign larger signing bonuses? ChatGPT said: NFL teams often use large signing bonuses as a strategic tool in contracts. While they cost real cash up front, they offer several advantages, especially when it comes to salary cap management, player retention, and negotiation leverage. Here's a breakdown of the benefits: ✅ 1. Salary Cap Flexibility Signing bonuses are prorated over the life of the contract (up to 5 years) for salary cap purposes. This allows teams to spread out the cap hit, even if the player receives the money immediately. Example: A $20M signing bonus on a 4-year deal counts only $5M/year against the cap. ✅ 2. Attracting Top Talent Players love signing bonuses because they're guaranteed money paid up front. Offering a bigger signing bonus can sweeten the deal without inflating yearly salaries. ✅ 3. Front-Loading Real Cash, Not Cap Teams with strong cash flow can pay big bonuses now while minimizing the immediate cap hit. Useful for teams trying to build around rookie QB contracts or with flexible cash budgets. ✅ 4. Locking in Key Players Larger bonuses make it harder for a player to be released early due to dead cap consequences. This can create more job security for the player and roster continuity for the team. ✅ 5. Leverage in Restructures Big signing bonuses create future cap hits via proration. Teams can later restructure deals (e.g., convert salary to bonus) to create even more cap space. ✅ 6. Competitive Edge In free agency, a team offering more guaranteed cash up front often wins the bidding war, even if the total contract value is lower than another team's. ⚠️ Key Caveat: Large signing bonuses increase dead cap risk if the player is cut or traded early."   I think that roster bonuses can be a useful tool if you're trying to keep players in by manipulating numbers and spreading the hit over time, but I don't think that it's something that you want to use unless it's "necessary." I don't know that you want to get into signing rookies on roster bonuses, as the bust rate is relatively high.
    • not even if that team in New Orleans disbands before the first game.  Saw one 2026 mock that had them drafting first next year.
