What was your favorite moment of the '17-'18 season?

With the season coming to an end with a disappointing result (spoiler alert: Patriots win), I wanted to reminisce on the good that came from this season. Obviously it didn't turn out the way we wanted but there was plenty of memorable moments.

Mine was probably the 'butt-drag swag' as we had been the game of the week for 2 or 3 weeks and with the media darling Rodgers coming back we shut him down and ended their season. The catch was amazing but I laughed by ass off seeing Olsen going bezerk to Rivera about it being a horrible challenge then completely changing tone and celebrating like a kid when they called it a TD, ending with a good laugh between player and coach.

What say you? What will be your fondest memory of this season?

Shula finally being shown the door.  JR being exposed and forced out is a blessing and a curse quite possibly as the Panthers may cease to exist.  But it's a risk that absolutely had to happen.

As for football?  Not much to remember about last season.  I would actually like to forget it honestly.

This was one of the ugliest 11 win seasons I've seen in a while plus we were one and done in the playoffs. Not really a successful season for me. Getting to the playoffs isn't good enough for me.

You can still enjoy moments from the season. We haven't won a SB so if you're using that as your barometer for whether you enjoy a football season then that's got to suck.

And there is no such thing as an ugly 11 win season. Good lord we are such a spoiled fan base all of a sudden.

For me, it had to be the Gano FG for the Pats. Most satisfying ending to a game since the Seahawks game in '15. My wife and I watch all the games together, but I was in Miami for work that week. Watched it over Facetime together from the hotel room (which luckily was playing the game that weekend) and it was way more enjoyable than I thought it would be.

I am wanting consistency. We're 20 years into this franchise and have yet to have back to back winning seasons. There were good moments in the season, but overall, you never knew which team you were going to see week to week. That's why I consider it an ugly 11. I realize all times have off games, but we took it to the extreme. Our team is bipolar. Good wins vs the Pats and Vikes, and just terrible clunkers against the Bears and Tampa. Barely hanging on for a wins because we go prevent up by 7 in the 3rd. This team is better than this. I don't consider a lot of this fan base spoiled. I consider them frustrated with mediocrity.

The highlight of the season for me is Shula getting canned, and I wouldn't have been sad to see Ron handed his walking papers either.

Best moment of the year from a player. Watching Cam put Shula, Ron and this whole offense on his shoulders again and damn near willing a win in NO in the playoffs.

We are in a weird place when you would rather just forget an 11 win season.

It could have and should have been better.   They did not live up to the hype and generally just half-assed it through the season.  Besides, it was an odd year and you know they have a winning record in odd years.  Mediocrity? No thanks.

hmm...the last fumble recovery against the Packers? The third down conversion on penalty keeping the drive to the FG against the Pats alive, I can remember was a big deal to me being there and all - once we got that first down I felt like we were going to kick and get the win. And of course it had nothing to do with us but Julio Jones end zone whiff just made me laugh and laugh

    • BPA comes with the caveat of positional value and roster need included. Never let the latter two completely overwhelm the first, however. Our FO seems to lean heavily into "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE POTENTIALZ!!!" as a fourth category and often it seems as the #1 overall pursuit. With as many needs as this roster has, I am not going to get upset over a real roster upgrade at WR versus some reach at EDGE or whatever other extreme needs we have. Overall, I want to see the roster get better. There is far, far, FAR more than one offseason of work left to get this roster into the top 10-12 in the NFL. That should be the goal.
    • I would say we are more likely to get smoked by Tampa, blast Seattle and then perplexingly lose to Tampa again.
    • In general, Dave Canales tends to target his TE's the least frequently of any position group(WR/RB/TE) during his three years of running an NFL offense.  However, if you notice this percentage has crept up over time. 2025 is the first year that TE has eclipsed RB in target percentage. Production has also gone up in 2025. This is a percentage of total output in each category. Canales has always used a very TE heavy offense. In fact, on average his offensive formations are 2 or 3 TE sets roughly 80% of all offensive formations. So, the question may be, with this uptick in total TE output, could an elite or top tier TE make a significant impact? I believe there is some evidence this may be the case. Here are a look at TE snaps and Cade Otten specifically. These are the snap percentages for all rostered TE's in every Dave Canales offense. The bolded cell is Cade Otten's whopping 96.46% of total snap counts in the single year he was in the Dave Canales offense in Tampa. This was overwhelmingly his career high. His production was higher with less utilization in 2024, however.    In conclusion, while I don't anticipate ever seeing a top 5 producing/Pro Bowl caliber TE performance in a Dave Canales offense, there does appear to be some evidence that an actual upgrade in our TE room would actually lead to increasing overall offensive efficiency. I think Otten's utilization rate does indicate that the splitting of time between our relatively even TE group would cede significant snaps if a far superior option were available. I believe this is an area we could(and should have this past offseason/draft) made a more concerted effort to get a dynamic TE threat, after the apparent failure that J. Sanders appears to have been.
