We now have 27.2 million,  which puts us at 17th in the league.  Similar to the BIlls and Chargers.

Cleveland leads the league in cap space with 111.7 million

Jets, Chicago, Indy, Tampa, and SanFran all have 70mil +

The Eagles and Dolphins are currently in the red.

Other NFCS Teams:
ATL 14.3
NO 33.6
TB 75.9

Man how do the Bucs always have cap space yet always spend a crap ton in FA.

27 million is pretty decent if we let both star and norwell go. But we'll be pretty strapped again if we pay either of those dudes.

players making over  1 mil , that we can cut with 0 dead money  vs the cap :

  • Ladarius Gunter CB (Who??) : 1,900,000
  • Wes Horton DE : 1,200,000
  • Fozzy Whittaker : 1,150,000
  • Colin Jones : 1,150,000
  • (this could easily add another 5 mil, over 7 mil if we cut Shepard too)

Other players Cap savings if cut :

  • Ryan Kalil : 7,500,000 (Holy fug)
  • Greg Olsen : 6,750,000 (ugh, so much money tied into 30+ players that were injured lot of last year)
  • Thomas Davis : 3,750,000

Looking at our cap in general, the main reason we dont have lot of space is b/c of Kalil Brothers (combine for over 17 million cap hit this season)  and Gregs contract is way too inflated almost 10 mil cap hit for over 30 TE who was injured much of last season.

If we had shifted moton to LT instead of bringing it M.Kalil we would be sitting at 34 mil in space  . Greg and Ryan had reasonable contracts wed could be in the 40 mil range easily. Our cap is just too top heavy.

Greg is worth his his money.

Panthers shouldn’t be cashed strapped w/ influx of rookie contracts and getting rid of the Kalils after 2108 will open up room along with annual CAP rise.

Why on earth would you cut a guy like Wes Horton or Colin Jones or for God's sake Olsen.  Olsen missed 1 game, yes 1 in his entire career before last year and had 3 straight 1,000 yard seasons before that.  Wes Horton started when Johnson got suspended and had 5 sacks last year.  The guy has a cap value of less than 2 million at a position when an average player has a cap value of anywhere from 6 to 10 million and you want to cut him.  And I thought Hurney was a bad GM.

Anyway you would not save 1.2 million or 1.15 million by cutting some of the smaller contracts even thought that is what there cap savings are said to be.  The cap in the offseason only counts the top 51 guys so if you cut a guy that saves you 1 million dollars the 52nd guy then gets put on the cap and the total amount you save is the difference between the 52nd guy cap value and the 1 million.  So in the Panthers case 1 million - 480,000.  That is the cap savings.  For smaller contracts it's not really worth doing unless the guy just can't play.
