Panthers trade Worley for Torrey Smith

I guess my question.... when is smith’s 5 million guaranteed? Is it? If the eagles were about to cut him to save money .... why can’t we?

also, it’s obvious management wanted to get something for Worley before he became a waste of pick.

laslty, I’d be interested to see if what the average rate for receivers is going to be in free agency. We wanted a veteran, we got a veteran. 5 mil is nothing and considering how much space we have in the cap next year... this is nothing. Especially if smith repeats what Gunn did for us.

(Takes shep’s 2 mil from that contract)

just my two cents

His garuantee on the deal has already been paid...we can cut him without penalty.

a restructure is likely, to lower his cap hit

HE WAS GOING TO BE RELEASE, WHY WOULD WE TRADE FOR HIM.

You don't know what the market will be once he hits free agency. Clubs notoriously overpay in FA. The Panthers may have pegged Smith as a guy they wanted, why gamble and let him hit the market where he could've gotten more from a team like Cleveland who has gobbles of cap room? Now, the trade assures you a fixed cost.

Worley was a below average player. This is a low risk deal.

Panthers acquire WR Torrey Smith from Eagles for CB Daryl Worley
If I were an NFL general manager, I'd be terrified to make any sort of deal with Howie Roseman. The man is a wizard and somehow finds a way to win every trade. He just robbed the Seahawks, so did he do the same thing to Carolina?

Torrey Smith is the bigger name in the trade, but that doesn't mean the Panthers are the winners. Smith was great for the Ravens during their Super Bowl run in 2013, catching 65 passes for 1,128 yards. However, Smith hasn't topped 770 yards in a season since, and at 29, time is running out for him to rebound. Smith wasn't very productive this past season, hauling in 36 balls for 430 yards and two touchdowns. He made some clutch plays, but also was responsible for countless drops. Owed $5 million in 2018, Smith had to be let go, as the Eagles are over the salary cap. The fact that Philadelphia got anything for him is definitely a bonus.

The Eagles won this trade. They dealt an aging, pedestrian player for a young cornerback with promise, all while saving $4 million or so in cap space. Worley, a 2016 third-round pick, had a semi-decent rookie year, but struggled in 2017. However, Worley has a chance to play better in Philadelphia because the Eagles, unlike the Panthers, have a great pass rush, so he won't be exposed as much. Plus, Worley is just 23, so he has plenty of room for growth.

Media trade hot takes are gospel:

Patriots Trade Grade: A+

I honestly do not understand why the Carolina Panthers would make this deal. I know that Kony Ealy has been inconsistent throughout the first three years of his career, but they gave him away for pretty much nothing.

In this deal, the Patriots sent the Panthers their second round pick (64th overall) and they get Kony Ealy and the Panthers third-round pick (72nd overall). Basically, the Patriots just traded down eight spots and added a potential impact player at a major position of need.

Ealy was a second-round selection by the Panthers (60th overall) back in 2014. He shows impressive quickness and athleticism on the edge and has the ability to put consistent pressure on the passer. However, Ealy has never reached his full potential on the field.

Through three seasons, Ealy 14 career regular season stats. The biggest game of his career came in Super Bowl 50 when Ealy sacked Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning three times. Maybe all Ealy needs is extra motivation to produce? He will certainly play in many big-time games with the Patriots.

Ealy is not a guaranteed stud or anything like that, but he is a talented player with some nice upside. The Patriots basically acquired him for free. Defensive end is an obvious position of need for New England and Ealy is undoubtedly a strong addition to the mix.

Thank fuging god Hurney woke the hell up. Also thank god Worley is gone. But he forgot to include Darby. I heard Torey on Lebetard this week and i'm like oh god don't end up here. Well here we are. He will help, but it's something? I hope he doesn't think this is the only answer because now we definitely need a corner and a safety. Where's Darby?
