R Kalil and making a Run

Guys do you seriously think Hurney is going to sit on this contract for Kalil?? 10 mil for a hurt aging center when the window for us to compete is closing fast? That is valuable Cap space that could be used on Robinson and a competent Veteran Back and possibly a Safety. NFC is leaving us in the dust with moves getting better and we make a play on Torrey Smith for 5 million. As a PSL owner it just kills me to think a 10 million retirement tour is more important than prepping us to compete.

Only about $7m of that $10m number is new money.  Part of it is dead money from prorated bonuses.

The questions becomes how little you could offer him before he goes to another team or just retires.  If you offer just $2m he might decide its not worth playing another year.  If you offer him $4m he might take it but you are really only saving yourself $3m.

Either way we should know soon, according to https://overthecap.com/player/ryan-kalil/1190/ his roster bonus is paid if he is on the team on 3rd of the new year which is later this week.

you cant just cut players if you have no one to replace them.  why is this so hard to understand.  If carolina gets what they need in free agency and the draft to allow them to cut Kalil or Shepard, maybe they will, cutting them and risk not finding a suitable replacing is risky as fug.

Also - let's say they draft a guy like Billy Price as the replacement to Kalil. Sure would be nice to have Kalil around one more year with Price learning behind him.

You cut him IF we need the money. It is pretty basic. Negotiate with high priced FA. If they accept and we need money than he's gone.

But in saying that I still feel like we won't go after high priced FA.

When we lose Norwell, we will probably get a 3rd round pick. Maybe a 5th for Star.

IF we get a high priced FA it's like trading a 3rd + giving them big money.

We will probably pick up Cut Players or still do Trades but that's it IMO

We spent most of last year with Tyler Larsen at center.

Emotions got him in trouble last time...he learned from that. :liar:

There is no one on the roster that even comes close to replacing Kalil at the moment.

Larsen is a backup for a reason.

Not to mention that not one person here has any idea whether he is healthy or not.  Nobody has seen his medical reports or talked to the doctors like the team has.  So if they decide to hang on to him, it is certainly based on the input from the people that actually know and understand his health.

Reports are that last year's problem was a byproduct of his 2016 shoulder injury and not being able to properly train and prepare for the season the way he needed to.  But when he came back at the end of the year last season, he sure played like he was fine, and he has stated that he won't have any limitations this offseason, so he should be completely ready for the coming season.

    • They said there wasn't clear evidence to warrant the overturn.  How would it have made a difference at that point in the game?   https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/nfl-privately-admitted-to-erroneous-reversal-of-catch-by-panthers
    • Me, I'm sick of WWE channel hopping their PLEs and shows. Netflix now with Raw. USA still has Smackdown but you can't get it with Roku if you don't also have cable. Then they went from all the PLEs on Peacock to ESPN+ which required upgrading your Disney+ package. Then they frikkin' move Saturday Night Main Event with John Cena's retirement match back over to frikkin' Peacock, which we'd just cancelled two months prior because no PLEs there anymore. And there are fewer, but longer matches and its the same danged stories again and again. Rematch after rematch after rematch between PLEs. Fewer matches, fewer wrestlers, more promos (of lesser quality) and less action.  It just seems like it's all fillers and re-runs. I'm tired of Cody Rhodes. I'm tired of Jey Uso. I'm tired of the two Brons. Shuffle the deck a bit guys, this game's getting stale.
    • Chuba was 3 yards behind the 3 gap. He was lined up weak offset I. It was a 33 dive. Chuba needed to power through off of Ekwonu's block and slip off into the 5 gap where the Tremble had the lane sealed and Rick pulled the LB out of the 5 gap. Here's a visual if you need proof. Chuba did a jump cut laterally to the 2 gap on the right side with unblocked defenders crashing down and went airborne.   This is a 33 dive that should have been slipped off the block into the 5 gap. Chuba lacked vision, but you can see Rico and Bryce staring at the intended running lane sealed off by Tremble and Ekwonu. He should have read Ekwonu's block. The blocking and misdirection is NOT set up for the right side. The play worked. Chuba failed to execute on this play. Trust who you want to, but I wouldn't suggest you argue with the video. Anyone telling you this was drawn up to go right with the blocking did not analyze it. They are correct it should have been a called dive, and it was a called dive.  This was a weak offset I bringing Tremble in motion from the right to the left.
