I dont want a wide receiver round one

With all the talk saying we might take a wide receiver round one and it is a huge possibility that we do, Im not a fan of taking a receiver in the first.

The receivers that are projected to go round 1 that an fall to us are , kirk , dj moore , ridley  and sutton . None of those names really stick out as a far ahead talent over wide receivers that can fall into the 3rd / later rounds . My best bet is we take a wide receiver in the 3rd , one we lower the risk of a wide receiver not producing right of way , two the talent from a rd 1 in this draft is not far off from a player that could fall in the 3rd round , three some of the best receivers were drafted in the third round aka smitty.

Some of the receivers i like that could be there in the 3rd ( also keep in mind players can fall ,you never know.)

Michael gallup, deoncain, antonio callaway , dante pettis , james washington , keke coutee , E.Q  stbrown , DJ chark .  the most risky one is callaway , he has all the talent but he is the next tyreek hill but that comes with off the field issues , so i guess we will pass .

Heres how i think our draft should go , rd one - cornerback , that is our biggest need , you can argue all you want but it is a huge need because of our pass heavy division . round two tight end , we need a successor for greg olsen and we need dicksons replacement .  Round 3 Wide receiver and safety . all other rounds best player available but draft a back up qb in the 7th and possibly a running back in the 5th .

I disagree, Cam needs all the weapons he can get and out WR corps doesnt really inspire a whole lot of enthusiasm. If Ridley or Moore is still there, i think we need to take them but i get that they both have their downsides. It really all depends on how the draft shakes out.

That's about where I am. The first pick almost HAS to be a CB or a guard. Maybe safety a round earlier than tight end - depending who is there and who isn't. There is a group of WRs that, right now, all seem to be about the same and will go around the same time. There should be some RB talent there later on.

I doubt panthers take CB at all if they do it's at the bottom of the draft.
1st rounder is going to be offense unless it's an elite saftey like Minka.

S > CB

I feel like even though we have need at the WR position, we've spent enough high draft picks on WRs the last several drafts.  We can't just keep wasting 1st and 2nd round picks on average talent at WR and ignore other pressing areas of need.

For me it’s not about taking a position. It’s about the player. I think our round 1 pick will be Ridley, Josh Jackson, or DJ Moore in that order.

Reid, Hurst, Sutton, these are just guys, have never done anything spectacular on the field . Marty won’t pick a guy like that with our 1st.

Well I don't think Minka is dropping. I love the idea of Safety early. poo, if it was me drafting, we'd double dip at safety 1 and 2.  Guard would probably be the wisest choice but there is no denying that we are and have been weak at CB. we'll see. Hopefully we get you that TE in the first 3 rounds.

I see our first three picks as -- WR / S / HB <<< HB / S -- may swap, we don't have a need for a rookie DB right now, Bradberry, Cockrell, and Munnerlyn are the starters, if we add a DB it will be the 2nd 3rd or lowerd.

We still have Luke, Elder, Seymour, and Gunter, defensive back is not a need as Cockrell is a considerable upgrade over Worley based on the statistics, and Bradberry is a closer player to his rookie form than what we saw last season.

This team needs offense, and in a bad way, I like CAP but he's not the answer moving forward, he's a JAG runningback, nothing dynamic or really impactful about his game that can't be replaced. I think the look to add a more dynamic compliment next to CMC. Smith isn't the long term answer opposite Funchess especially considering some see him as a #2, so I think receiver is the move in the 1st.

if we dont take a CB or FS in first round i'll be pissed. we do not need a TE. we do not need a WR nearly as much as DBs. and this WR class is bad on top of that. even if ridley fell to 24 i wouldnt want him.

Wow pretty terrible assessment IMO,  good thing your not a GM.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
