Do You Honestly Believe We Will Have Another Non-Winning Season ? Or Is A New Owner a Sign of Immediate Change?

  1. 1. What Kind of Season Do You Expect?

I was just thinking about how the team will do now we're undergoing so much change.  Of course its not all due to JR leaving, but how cool would it be that in our first year with a new owner we would have consecutive winning seasons for the first time in franchise history.

I just want to know if you guys actually beleive it will happen. I said before many times on here that in 20+ years of existance , weve had plenty of different coaches , players , staff members through the years and we still didnt EVER manager ONE single pair of back to back winning seasons, so the common denominator I always arrived at was JR. Of course I was unilaterally stomped on for saying stuff against JR for much of the time , but now we finally get to see if I was right.

I know itll eventually happen, but my question is , WILL it happen THIS season.

The weird thing about the Panthers is we always seem to do well , when people pick against us before the season (low expectations). But when there's high expectations and alot of pressure (ALA 2016) shits gone south fast and the team crumples record wise. Is getting Tepper, Norv , DJ , Torrey Smith,  CJ Anderson, Dontari Poe, Donte Jackson actually be enough to put us over the edge and have a 9-7 season or better? Or will we just simply have another 6-10 ish season that we ususally do following successful years in the River era?

8-8 not good enough. 9-7 will probably not even make the playoffs but would still be  a huge franchise bucking trend in the correct direction of establishing a culture of consistent winning. We cant be a .500 franchise for the next 25 years too , right?

I expect a 10-6 season and making another WC Playoff. Our division is way too crazy , we pretty much have automatic losses at least once vs the Saints and once vs the Falcons at their place (Why tf do we lose in ATL so much in the Cam/Rivera era?) . I could see us dropping one to the Bucs as well, they're pretty much due a win because we almost always win vs them in the Cam/Rivera Era.

So thats probably minimum of 3 losses . I could also see us losing to Eagles, Steelers, and one bizarre loss to some unexpected team.

I don't really expect Tepper to have much of an effect on this season because most of the work building for this year is already done (same as last year when Hurney was brought in).

Future seasons?  Yeah, he'll make a difference.  Remains to be seen whether or not it's for the better.

so you think we'll do 8-8 or less? Its kinda depressing to think about.. Cam and Luke are getting close to 30.

If tradition holds true it will be a down year in Pantherland.  I fear it will take another season to wipe the stench of the previous administration from the building.

I am hopeful that the changes bring an end to that history of never having consecutive winning seasons.

I voted 11-5.

May be optimistic given a TOUGH division and games vs Eagles and Steelers, yet Cam seems leaner and hungrier than ever, and guys like CMC and Funchess may be able to really step up.  Add in the fact of  new coordinators shaking up things so we're not so dang predictable, plus the motivation level of TD, Pep and Ryan - all likely in last seasons... This could be a special year.

We need few injuries.

Quick learning curve for new offense.

Solid O line

Improved secondary

Any of those things go wrong and 7-9 can become a reality very quickly.

I have no idea. I don't feel our defense will be as good. I think our passing game will be better but our run game may suffer without Norwell. I'm also concerned about special teams. I chose 8-8 just because.

Holy fug, you think our defense will be even worse ? I hope you dont mean the secondary too because we've been horrid in the defensive backfield since SB 50 ended. Getting WORSE there would mean we'd be probably near the bottom 10 teams in pass defense in a division that has very good QBs and exceptional WR cores

Based on team talent, the only reason to expect a losing season would be history. That's pretty weak and pretty pessimistic. I expect a winning record unless they give away multiple games due to mistakes/sloppiness, or there's a raft of injuries taking out key players.

    • Those were the days lol
    • Have you even been reading my posts?  I'm not so sure because you seem to insinuate that I'm expecting some monster year 1 season, but I've time and time again said I'm only expecting 800 yards from him as a rookie.  Because like you said, it's not in his control, we have a bunch of good receiving options and two 1k yard RBs in what should be a run first offense. And yes, I'm very much a T-Mac homer, I've never once denied it, I'm an Arizona alumni who has been open about that from the very first thread I made about him over 18 months ago. But that doesn't mean I'm blindly expecting him to be an All Pro as a rookie, I just know more about his game than most people here who watch his highlights and breakdowns.  Which generally focus on the things he does best and worst to highlight his best abilities (his downfield contested catches) and where he needs to improve (separation) as those are the two things fans care most about when talking about the draft. What those breakdowns don't cover much are the "boring and mundane" things he does very well and exactly what you are talking about needing for Bryce.   He was constantly used in the short passing game, whether they be WR screens or quick slants, to get the ball in his hands and let him make plays, it's why he was 5th in the Big 12 in YAC last year.  With his size and hands, when he runs a quick 5 yard slant in front of the defender and the QB delivers the ball on time with anticipation, creating buckets of separation isn't needed, he's going to make the catch and then get some YAC for a 1st down.  Go watch the 30 minute YT videos that string together every catch he made last year (or the same thing from 2023) and you'll see those plays constantly, but in the analyst breakdowns leading into the draft those things don't get discussed as much as the big plays and then the things he needs to work on, because they're just not as "sexy" to talk about as those. Per your ask... He has 3 main things he needs to improve upon, and again, "needing to improve" doesn't mean "he's terrible" at them, just things he can get better at, like all young players have things to work on. 1.  His get off at the snap.   For all the amazing things he did for us at Arizona, this was always the thing that would frustrate me the most, as he generally was a bit slow to fire off the line.  The nice thing is even in the minimal clips we've seen from rookie mini camp, his initial fire off the line already appears to have been sped up a lot, he clearly has been working on that in the lead up to the draft. 2.  His separation Yea, he's not a 6' quick twitch athlete, so his separation is never going to be at the level of a Chase or Jefferson.  I've always admitted that, but because he's not one of those guys, he also brings a lot of things that those others can't.  His catch radius and hands are why I'm not as concerned about his separation, because he's so good at making those contested catches by snatching the ball away from his body to where the defender can't get to it to break it up. But yes, he does still need to get better here, just as all rookies have things to improve upon. 3.  Using his body more physically This is something that he did at times, but he also is just a great athlete for his size and would often rely on his physical abilities to make defenders miss him in the open field than just power through them, which is fine in college.  But yes, at the next level, as he gets older and stronger, I'd like to see him use it more like Evans does, and that will come with time as he builds strength and develops that part of his game. Again, I implore you to to spend an hour watching those "Every catch from the X season" for his last two years in college.  If/when you do, I think you're going to be very surprised by the number of times we used him in the short passing game and let him gain YAC to move the ball down the field.
