The problem with the Shula offense was that even the short receivers couldn't get open.

Until the arrival of CMC, the cry of "DUMP EET AWWWWWWWF CAMMMMMMMMMMMMM!" was the haunting cry of the Clueless Warbler.

NFL teams covered receivers in a Shula offense like they were reading the playbook and calling the plays.

Agreed.  I think other than Teddy, the team has struggled with separation for some time now.  Olsen, KB, and Stew weren't getting behind anyone.  Funch was young and very green.  Byrd was young, Samuel got hurt right when he was coming on...

If Samuel, Moore, and CMC can stay healthy, we have speed/route running out there, and now it seems the light has come on with Funch.

Which goes back to whomever it was (I forget) saying that all our guys were running very basic routes...

Plus the Broncos saying that we didn't do anything they hadn't already seen...

Plus numerous commentators asking why we had two or three receivers running to the same spot...

Plus...eeeeehhhh, you get it.

Norv incorporates both the long and short passing into his offense.  And since pretty much everyone knows Cam's biggest weakness has been his short game and touch passes, the Turner's are beginning there.  But don't think Norv will abandon the deep passing game.  That's a staple of his as well.

That's the beauty of him as our OC with the talent we have.  We have the kind of talent that should keep defenses off balance.  We've got receivers that can thrive underneath and out of the backfield, deep threats, possession receivers, a top shelf TE, and a running game that will force defenses to pay attention to it and not cheat in the passing game (no matter what you think of CMC as a runner, CJ has proven himself to be a very good back, so one or both of them will be able to carry the torch).  Not to mention that both backs are also very good receivers.  This has the potential to be a very dangerous offense.

The article this thread was created about states the Turners wanting to get Cam to check down more often and quicker. You should read it before you do in to your awkward defense mechanism mode regarding Newton.

And you, however, should EABOD.

I think Cam is onboard with this.   He knows how dangerous CMC can be along with CJ and Armah.  Checking down isn't quite the same as Checking down to Fozzy.

I think checking down is only going to open up deep passes.   When our RBs start getting big chunk plays off a check down.  They are going to have to cheat and that when we light them up with deep passes.

The scheme last year wasn't bad. Getting rid of the ball is extremely important for this team. How it was implemented and Shulas inability to use McCaffrey effectively was the problem.

Cam gonna hit 5,000+ all purpose yardage this season, 65%+ completion, and 2nd MVP.  Gonna bust out some new celebration that takes the world by storm again as he styles his way all the way back to the Super Bowl.  Gonna finally raise that Lombardi in his hometown of all places.  Lol it'd be so awesome to win the Super Bowl in Atlanta.

Screen shot taken for future praise if this comes true. Or ridicule if we fail miserably.

Cam's play is more of a gun slinger.  He likes to take chances down the field and trying to get him to change that aspect of his game is probably going to be very difficult but I can see us incorporating more short passes to our game plan.  We have insanely fast guys going to be on the field...dumping off passes and letting them try to get YAC will be awesome if it works.  The problem with our offense in years past is it hasn't worked really all that well.  Running the ball was pretty miserable and we didn't really have guys who can do much in terms of breaking tackles....etc, to get to that second level.  I think Cmac will improve this season, Moore could turn into a YAC monster and Curtis is a wild card.  If we can master the short passes, Anderson being able to get 4+ yards a carry and with Cam already salivating to push the ball down field as often as we can, well, our offense could end up being nearly unstoppable.
