It's finally hitting me that Garrett Gilbert being the backup QB wasn't just talk, it's probably happening

You’re assuming the Steelers would trade Dobbs for a late round pick.  Your assumption would be wrong.  They just spent a 4th on him last year.

And then a second for another QB which means Dobbs didn't impress them.

Assuming that guy is a Vols fan. It's pretty obvious in those situations.

Derek Anderson couldn't beat the Bucs. We needed to go in some other direction. Not saying it is the best option but it certainly isn't too much worse than where we were.

Anderson went 2-0 against the Bucs the season before. I still believe Anderson is the best fit and wouldn't be surprised to see him back if Heinke or Gilbert fail to show they have what it takes. I'd suggest giving Cam one quarter in the 3rd Preseason game and then throwing Gilbert and Heinke in with the ones. We know what Cam can do and there is a major question as to how a back-up would perform should Cam go down.

When Delhomme came here he didn't have much experience outside of training camp and NFL Europe. But he came in and established himself as a starter as soon as he was put in. Let's see what Gilbert can do before throwing him under the bus. From what I remember he looked better in camp last preseason compared to Anderson.

The money saved with Gilbert vs. Anderson might be enough to afford a resource or two to keep Cam healthy.

And sooner or later we were going to have to put either an untested kid or a never made-it back there. I always pull for the untested kid in that scenario.

He's been awful since 2014 and getting worse. That's just the honest truth.

Maybe it's premature to make this thread before we see how he plays this preseason, but this sounds like a pretty insane idea to me. Cam only missed a handful of plays in 2017 due to injury, but that obviously wasn't the case in the few years prior to that. What has Rivera seen from him that we haven't? His stats last preseason against guys that are playing in Canada or are sitting in customer support call centers right now was 29 of 50 for 317 yards, 0 TDs, 1 pick in 4 games. Am I just completely misremembering this guy's production because he is a complete blank slate in my mind like a Tony Pike.

Thoughts on an unproven nobody that's never shown anything rolling into 2018 as the backup to Cam?

He goes through progressions well and has a good release with a tight spiral. I personally like him, he looked good in the pocket

    • I’m old enough to remember when I wanted to draft Njoku We brought back Mitchell and officially kept Tremble. Mitchell Evans isn’t going anywhere. Sanders who knows, he was awful last year I fully agree we need a better TE. This room is awful Njoku would be a massive help in the red zone. However it really seems like Dan and the FO prefer to go young on offense
    • You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1.  Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover
    • Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run
