We need to suck it up and try signing Breeland again post-Cockrell

He visited the colts, Chiefs and Browns all of whom retain an interest. Baltimore have just joined that group and are said to be aggressively pursuing his signature. (I got this from the colts forum).

Personally, I'm not that interested after what went down. I would rather Doss or one of our current guys get an opportunity at the least. If necessary pickup someone in cuts.

is there a decent corner worth trading for?  maybe a disgruntled player who isn't going to bring on a huge cap hit?

How much you think Washington wants for Norman and that massive contract?

It's an idea that's just so crazy it could work. Chances it will, slim to none.  But that's an all-in move that Hurney might make to save his job and give a lot to the secondary.  Norman, Bradberry, Jackson (with Norman as mentor) as the Top 3 CBs?  I'm more than fine going to war with that. I mean, Norman could be had for what...a 4th rounder maybe?

Also, Norman's contract is a lot more team friendly in a sense now, with dead money being low and him being a cut candidate to save cash if need be even this year.  Only issue, I doubt it's a move Washington makes unless they drop the first few games of the season, while we could trade for him to grab coming out of our BYE.

Yeah, I'm thinking if he had a legit offer on the table he would've signed it. I'm sure he's getting low-balled left and right... just like we would (and should after that stunt he pulled on us) do.

Or he could have a few offers he's pondering. He's had visits with several teams at this point, and all it takes is one.

I'd add that the mention of the Ravens having strong interest  jibes with what someone else had said.

Yeah, it's possible, but I think Breeland is a pipe dream.

Replacing a guy with a broken leg with Trenchfoot McGee might not be the way to go.

It's been reported that he's fully healed, tough if not he could wind up signed somewhere else and then cut again.

If that happens though, why would you want him?

Situations and circumstances change. Some of the antipathy may have been due to "deception" by his agent, or...maybe there was simply miscommunication. In any event, I would hope that we'd be prudent enough and he'd be mature enough to at least talk it out. This is big boy football.

How do we fit that massive contract under our cap?

Unless Norman is prepared to take a major pay cut, that's not an option.

Maybe if he's cut, but then you also have to account for other suitors.

Again does anybody know what kinda of reps Cockrell was getting before the injury?? Ppl keep asking to replace him and I'm trying to figure out was he even getting starting or 2nd team reps?? I hadn't heard anything about him lining up with the 1st or 2nd team defense.   Actually hadn't heard anything about him until the injury.   Honestly Doss, Jackson, Seymore, and Corn sound like they were getting the bulk of reps.. Do we need to replace him?,

Foot injuries are complex and often come back again and again, particularly ones with infections. It's the real reason Turf Toe can be a career ending injury. I wish him a speedy and strong recovery, but we'd be foolish to invest money in him.

This.

I get that he was a great veteran presence in the locker room.  He was doing a good job of helping the young guys learn.  That's certainly valuable stuff . . . but it's also stuff he can do from IR.  I want to know what reps he was getting and where.  We still have an awful lot of CB's on the roster that could conceivably be actual NFL CB's.

    • It's honestly pretty interesting just seeing this pairing play out. Canales’ offenses (Seattle, Tampa) are run-first, under-center, play-action systems built around defined reads and intermediate/deep timing throws. That structure worked when he had QBs like Baker Mayfield or Russell Wilson in a system that created clear launch points and sightlines. His success has always been tied to a credible run game + play-action gravity. You can see that with the Panthers team building philosophy as well. Coker and TMac both are bigger receivers that won't get the best YAC production but thrive as possession receivers in contested scenarios. They're not the best in space and creating additional yardage in such, and would likely fair better systematically with a stronger armed QB who can create better opportunities on those boundary 1v1 matchups with stronger throws. Bryce, on the other hand, is a spread-native QB. His strengths are rhythm, spacing, quick processing, and off-script creation. Asking him to live in condensed formations with long-developing play-action concepts just hasn't been his forte. And well, his boundary throws are limited in velocity which takes a big chunk of the playbook off. And I mean a QB like Bryce can still work, it's just Dave's offensive philosophy and foundation is very much at odds with Young's physical limits and his own experience. So it's certainly still a learning experience for Dave to figure out how he can mesh his offensive philosophy with Young's strengths. He's very inexperienced with maximizing Bryce's strengths with his system. Would love to see us bring in an OC with spread experience and adaptability to implement a cohesive system with Dave to allow Bryce to thrive, as it's obvious we're sticking with him for a bit longer.
    • Only thing I really agreed with is questioning why we didn’t take any timeouts on their last drive.  I know hindsight is 20/20, but I think it would’ve saved clock bc they were desperate to score as soon as the opportunity presented itself, but I also think it could’ve helped the defense regroup and maybe give us a better chance to stop them.
