Tonight is fan fest. Rain is expected, so turnout may not be too great. Great chance though for some autograph hunters to cash in.

Is our logo at midfield yet for tonight?

According to the Panthers podcast they don't normally prepare the field much for Fanfest so people expecting the logo unveil might be disappointed.

Still, its the first Panther football at BoA for 8 months so can't get too picky.

The big reason people are expecting it is the tease from the social media team members.

If you’re an adult - and you are near the group of kids seeking autographs, setting screens and blocking out children so that you can get a signature....you need to check yourself and get a life.

It’s a nasty hustle, and sure fire way to spot a loser. Grown men should not be autograph hounds, especially if that means taking away the joy of it from kids. A lot of the guys doing it are just only there so that they can sell the signed item on eBay. Pathetic  

I like memorabilia, I have some in my man cave. I have some autographs, jerseys, framed pictures, etc but I would never spend my own money to buy anything significant and feel incredibly awkward asking another adult male that is younger than me to sign something. It’s weird. 

Ive been lucky enough to win most of my stuff in raffles for charities and have had some items donated to me by my friends and family. I do have an autographed ty Lawson jersey that one of my buddies gave to me

Got a story of my own.. went to a Travis Tritt concert a while back. Someone in the crowd has a heart attack and EMT’s on site can’t get to the guy because people are refusing to move. Not sure if the poor guy survived or not.

I have a story about Alonzo Mourning.

When I was a kid, I went to hornets games all the time back when they were at the Hive off Tyvola. After the games, Steve Martin or Gil mcGregor would interview a player on the court and fans would line up near the tunnel to get an autograph. I wasnt successfull most of the time, or my dad wanted to leave to avoid traffic, etc but the room where to stand would fill up quick. One game I got down there early and felt good about getting a signature, and Zo was the player to be interviewed. He came out and did his interview and when he was done he walked right by all the people standing there, a lot of kids, and completely disregarded the fans. To my knowledge it was sort of a tradition and expected for the player to sign a few signatures and Zo basically had better things to do. 

 Once people realized he wasn’t going to sign they begin to yel, boo, groan etc and start to leave. Zo stops right before he disappears into the tunnel and does a long pause with his back to the crowd chugs his Gatorade in an arrogant, like uneccesary fashion and shoots up a peace sign to the crowd before leaving. I don’t remember really ever going back to get an autograph after that. I will always remember that moment. This happened like 20-22 years ago.

I met Mickey Mantle at a card show and got a ton signed and my dad met Ted Williams at an FBI event and got me a signed ball. I used to collect signed envelopes from a company that did signings but that was from the 80s. Anything I get for my kids is either in person or friends (buddy who played for Panthers got my youngest a signed ball with Cam, Short, Turner and others and the same son played with Steph Curry’s trainer’s son who got pictures signed for the team) or it has to have those witness authentications from the top authentication houses. The in person are my favorites.

I did go to fan fest back when they had it on a Saturday during the day like a few years ago and remember a dad aggressively coaching his kid on how to get autographs and really, really wanted one from Steve Smith when he came over to where we were sitting. I mean, that was pretty pathetic as well - using your small child to bait the dude into signing your stuff. The dad probably didn’t even give the Kid the stuff he got signed. I’ll probably do that once my little boy is old enough to walk around.
