Cam Newton went 11-5 last year and had a terrific playoff game capped off by a perfect Hail Mary pass that should have been caught for the W

Anybody that says Cam Newton is anything other than an MVP/All-Pro/top tier QB either knows nothing about football or knows nothing about Cam Newton.

Cam found Funchess with single coverage in the end zone and threw a pass Aaron Rodgers would envy and Funchess just whiffed. If Funchess catches it, Cam caps off a legendary playoff game comeback in the Superdome in one of the greatest wins in team history. That Funchess dropped it doesn't make his game and that pass any less impressive.

Just a reminder to some folks that need it.

It was a truly all time great playoff performance.  Especially with him and Funchess having obvious injuries (Funchess I think suffered in the TB home game).  I look back more on the Clay drop, the missed XP than the Funchess chance there but most of all that BS intentional grounding call.  What could have been had we won that game and gotten a rematch with a team we had already beat for a trip to the NFC Championship....

With all that said, this is why it's better to have everyone sleep on us.

Not to be rude, but didn't you say that not so long ago?

If Funchess had 2 arms, we would have won that game.

No he wouldn’t have. His shoulder played no role in him not coming down with that ball. Just like at the end of the Jets game last year as well, Funchess isn’t a good deep ball receiver.

I’ve never seen a WR get such a career pass the way Funchess has dating back to his Michigan days.

I got sh!t on for suggesting Funchess should’ve caught that ball when it happened but anyone with a lick of football sense could see it. So leave it up to the huddle to disagree of course

Thinking about that game and who are WR's were really makes you appreciate the players coming back from injury and the upgrades we made in the offseason.

Going from the likes of Klay, Shepard and Bersin to Moore, Smith, Wright and getting Samuel/Byrd back from injury should make anyone excited about our offense's potential this year.

Funchess said he lost it in the lights.  He catches that ball at home.

I'm not sure you can really say that a guy has 'gotten a pass' with 3 years of NFL/playoff/super bowl experience who now has 1,600 yards and is literally the same age as the guy the falcons just drafted in the first round who hasn't played a snap.  Would you say the Falcons are excited about their first round WR pick?  Cause him and Funchess are starting this year at the exact same place in their lives.  And now he isn't just a 22 year old thrust into his first year of actually playing WR.  He has experience and much more support around him.  Don't let me stop you from rooting against the team and for your narrative though.  I'm sure that's a blast.

I have two opinions about Cam that I can’t decide which one is true but I have narrowed it down to 2.

1. Cam is the most unlucky QB there is. Having Shula as an OC, bad offensive line and bad WR. He has talent but the players around him are bringing him down.

2. Cam is overrated. He isn’t consistent. He is great athletically but is average when it comes to throwing the ball. He has flashes of greatness but then makes horrible decisions. His completion % is horrible. He has wide open receivers that he never checks down to.

honestly I don’t know what to believe. Cam has won the MVP but that year we actually had a good offensive line, probowl TE, healthy RB and a defense that gave Cam lots of short yard situations. Lots of seasons when he struggled he was injured, had a horrible offensive line and or had no WR. So it’s tough for me to say which of the 2 is true. However if Shula has a great season with Old Eli at QB I think we should question how good Cam is. If Cam can do good with a different OC maybe it was Shula who was the problem. We have changed our scheme around and went from tall slower WR to fast better route running WR. We have CMC for short yards to help improve Cams completion %. The only issue I see is the offensive line.

Oh look the age “pass”... *yawn*

Ridley is also a lot more polished than Funchess. So now what piss poor excuse you got?

Funchess has also been really quiet going against a terrible secondary this camp. Funchess isn’t a “gamer” so you’d like to see him at least put on a show at camp but he’s not doing that.

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
