These guys need to start next week. Throw them to the wolves and see how they handle it. There's no reason not to. The vets in front of them absolutely fuging suck.

You've gotta know that means they'll get roasted a fair amount while they're still learning the pro game, though.

Me? I'm fine with that, but I'm not trying to impress my new boss so I can keep my job.

I have to wonder if this will be a little bit of a conundrum for Rivera and Hurney.

Yep, it will. But if they're gonna ultimately make it, they can handle it.

I think they're better off rolling with the young kids and using it as an excuse than rolling with the seasoned vets and still getting burned left and right.

I'd feel differently if we had serviceable stop gap vets, but we don't. There probably aren't any vets on the roster that are going to do any better.

Couldn't agree more. I think Cockrell was seen as the stopgap at least at CB. The other potential stopgap solution was Seymour and that was answered tonight (negatively).

Hope Doss gets extended time with the 2s and maybe 1s. He showed some promise on a stacked Denver secondary.

But yeah all things considered I'm not sure we're any worse off rolling with Jackson and Gaulden starting from day one.

We threw Bradberry and Worley to the wolves and it wasn't great, but we did see what we had and it wasn't the difference in the end between us being a 6-10 team or a playoff team.

The SB hangover was real.

And somebody mentioned it earlier, but it is tough not to think about the butterfly effect of releasing Josh Norman...

Also add Mick Mixon and Mike Rucker to Wk. 1 Loser bracket. The commentary was awful.

Mixon is a joke, sooooo bad. And Rucker?? Dude is as interesting as a potato.

I rrrrreally hope Tepper mixes up the Panthers announcers sooner than later...

Damn, I miss Bill Rosinski...

Had to work so I didn't get to see the game. Do you or anybody else have a clip or video showing Gilbert's throw where he missed the wide open Moore. The one that the article states that, " He also missed a wide open D.J. Moore in the first half with what can only be described as the worst throw ever made by a backup quarterback in the first half of the first preseason game in Carolina Panthers history. "

That's a bit of an embellishment lol...  i'd have to go back and look about the pressure on the play, but iirc, he had some and then threw it towards DJ, who was indeed WIDE OPEN i think somewhere around 20 yards downfield, and he threw it a good 5-10 yards over his head.  It was bad, but not THAT bad...  GG also threw an absolute dime to Mose Frazier after that...  and for all of the love Heinicke is getting, he came in and and I believe his first two passes were also high and yards away from the receiver's reach.  So, they both had some mistakes and some great plays as well.

Lol, alright. The article did say it was a tad bit of an exaggeration but it had me curious despite that. I know I had seen some bad passes over the years, so for them to make it seem that bad I was expecting much worse than what you explained. Should be interesting to see who wins the position battle.

You joking people about not following the conversation, but I said those 2 plus Cam.

I'm not throwing shade on their historic season or saying CMC/CJ are as good as a duo as Kamara/Ingram, but collectively Carolinas run game is just as much of a threat as the Saints.

Cam Newton if he retired tomorrow is already one of the greatest red zone runners in NFL history. He makes any backfield dangerous.

My point being that adding a proven 1000 yard rusher still in his prime in Anderson with McCaffrey who has bulked up substantially with Cam scares any defensive coordinator in the league every bit as much as Kamara/Ingram

You are correct, sir, I did miss Cam. My bad.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
