Olsen was great on plays designed for him under Shula. Preseason is a different animal. If Norv calls Olsen plays, Olsen will make plays.

Well hopefully we won't be relying on him as a big play receiver like in season's past. He was always shoehorned into that role due to a dearth of talent on the outside year after year. Even if he's lost two steps, he's still valuable as a possession guy who just knows where the opening in the defense will be. No reason to even consider changing his snap count until defenses start basically ignoring him and not paying for it.

Olsen has lost a step based on what, besides the OP's opinion. 

Olsen looked like Olsen when he was running and cutting in front of me.  But yes, let's make baseless opinions based on preseason. 

That would mean Peppers is ready to retire.

Olsen has always been a slow, plodding TE with minimal YAC threat. Now, add the foot injury and additional age and it's safe to say he has indeed lost a step.

As many have mentioned, it is preseason and vets don't go 100% despite what us fans think.  Also, Olsen gets separation because of his route running and knowledge of the game and has never been a TE that is going to blow by everyone because of his speed.

Why does Olsen get a "it's just preseason" pass but Kalil doesn't?

It's preseason. Olsen may have but it's a given he's not going 100%. As for Moore and Samuel not being out there with Cam but we have Smith and Wright not doing poo, it's not helping Cam develop chemistry with them or just having less options.

If he can consistently get open, catch the ball, then fall down he will still be very valuable for us.
