CMC and Cam Killed It Despite the Loss

One thing that baffled me was in the 3rd quarter on a crucial drive the Panthers were backed up near their end-zone I believe it was 3rd and 2 and Norv decides to go empty backfield and Cam throws a back shoulder pass to Funchess who drops it.

Why not hit Mccaffrey with a pass coming out of the backfield with so few yards to get. I think at that point in the game Cam had targeted Cmc 8 times for 8 completions,  if it was working why go away from it in that situation. That was a crucial set of downs that ended with the Panthers punting and Atlanta getting good field position that ultimately led to a touchdown.

Christian McCaffrey's 14 receptions against Atlanta tied Steve Smith's single-game record for the most in Carolina history. The total also tied for the most by a running back in a single game in the last 37 seasons (since 1981). Roy Helu, Marshall Faulk and Brian Westbrook also had 14 in a game in that span.

Meanwhile, on the Atlanta board, instead of being human beings and condemning their cheap-shot artist safety, they are insisting that "Cam was hamming it up" and "flopping around like a soccer player" and that "the referees protect Cam too much".

That last one was fugging HILARIOUS.

Come on, most of the posters in that thread are saying it's a cheap shot.

Like me,  most don't think it was malicious, just a bone headed play by a youngster.

He wasn't the only one, he just got to the guy first.

We’ve seen Cam get rocked many times and everyone stands around and watches. Had Torrey not made a statement by running and pushing that guy it would’ve been the same old. Torrey set the tone.

But yeah as a WR he’s f’n awful as expected. That deep ball at the end of the game... what a pathetic effort

And in the game thread I gave Smith all the credit in the world for that.

BUT I WOULD RATHER HE BE A COMPETENT DEEP THREAT, BE ABLE TO CATCH PASSES, AND BE A COMPETENT BLOCKER ON RUN PLAYS, NONE OF WHICH HE IS.

He did catch A nice TD --he's fine.

We can't force feed CMC check downs constantly. It's a good safety vavle but we shouldn't have to rely on it so much

This is the plan. Everyone in the NFL has tape and watches. When they start stopping the check down, we will start chunking it downfield. There are 14 regular season games left, we will be in good shape in a couple of weeks.

This isn't even half the story . . .

The call was a good one, Norv put the players in a situation that if executed properly would have resulted in not just a first down, but a very nice gain.  Funchess didn't "drop" the pass, oh no, that's far too kind a thing to say of that.

Funchess didn't even get a hand on the ball.  A well thrown ball from our QB at that.  Perfect back shoulder ball . . . just stick your hands in front of it and profit.

So disappointed with Funchess today.

So you're telling me everyone else just stood around and watched? That never happened and it didn't this time.
