I don't think it's all about the plays, but when the plays are called. He is such a better game manager than our previous OC.

That's really all we've needed ever since we drafted Cam. Calling the correct plays during critical moments of the game. Then he also has the added bonus of actually changing what's not working. He does everything right that Shula always kept getting wrong.

Boy, I like that phrase.

"Flow of the game" is another one I've used before. Some guys understand it. Some don't. Turner definitely does.

Play design makes a difference too, but even the greatest plays in the world aren't going to keep working if you just call the same ones over and over again.

I think it is even bigger...not just a play at the right time, but strategy adjustment.  When did Norv know that the Bengals were focusing on CMC as a receiver so he set him up to have a record day rushing the ball?  Was it because he set them up?  Watched film?  or adjusted on the fly?  Looks like this OC can do any and all of them.

 

Also...he and the OL coach deserve a medal....amazing work.

I think all the above. Turner gets it and I like it.

You really see why he's a HOF OC. Like this team is dangerous even after we were wounded by bad luck and injuries. I think this team has yet to even become as good as we can be. Grab the popcorn.

I keep saying this, but I really think once we get Olsen back and up to speed this offense is going to be downright scary for opposing teams. Greg’s talents are the one thing missing so far...that threat of a deep seam pass that Cam and Greg are so good at. Hopefully we get past NY this week, then we get our offense back to full strength ready to smash Washington.

Yeah, his flexibility is great. Some coaches are so stubborn and stagnant - attempting to force their philosophy onto circumstances rather than adapting to what is present.

Norv coming onboard (not to mention Tepper) is probably one of the most exciting changes I've seen in this decade since Cam and Luke were drafted (getting Peppers back was also very, very cool).

Shula's in game predictability was far more than frustrating. I'd sit there in games I attended and pre snap, call out plays well beforehand with about 80% accuracy to the delight, and simultaneous dismay, of nearby knowledgeable fellow fans. Hell, my wife could almost do that, and she just came on board as a fan of football itself only about five years ago. Had it not been for a pair of free unexpected clubs, other than to check out CMC, I doubt I would have gone to see a game last year. Now, once again, I'm again on a constant prowl to find a good deal to see these changes happen live, and revel in the moment(s).

IIRC, there's been more than one published quote attributed to the staff that, in the past, we used to basically plan our game, and stick with it, as opposed to anything more than minor in game adjustments. Mind boggling, especially when I recently read a few in depth articles where it was stated that the majority of coaches and coordinators open with a script for about two or three series of plays, then essentially ad lib and adjust prn. Compare that former Panthers philosophy to the current hot shots (e.g., McVay), or to Belichick, who probably scraps his gameplan and does a rewrite because of something he saw in warm ups (in fact, I think I read that somewhere about targeting one specific player).

I've been a fan, fair weather or foul, since day one, but Norv brings something new and long needed: a coach/coordinator who plays and plans to the strengths and weaknesses of his own roster, and that of the opposition...in real time!
