I was forgetting about the play in between and it makes no difference. 

The McCaffery run took 20 seconds off the clock once he finally got up off the ground and such. The passing play after the spike took 5 seconds...

5 seconds max!? No... no chance. Cam would’ve been stuck under that pile for longer than 5 seconds.

Also the sneak call would’ve come with the clock running. Look how unorganized Ron looks in this clip. There would’ve for sure been all sorts of confusion had they ruled McCaffery short with the clock still going.

One of my bigger concerns is our time managment in general. We had only one timeout because we burned unecessary timeouts all game. (granted one in the second half was the bogus challenge)

i understand the befuddlement because that clearly was not a first down. cmc was about a foot short and the terrible refs gave it to us, hence ron calling the sneak and then having to change it.

i'm not sure what else people wanted him to call besides the sneak. a pass to the sideline maybe but that has a way lower percentage of success.

I'm not going to jump into the fracas too much on this because we know how the huddle gets in regards to Ron's questionable coaching.

All I'm going to say is this.

I really like Ron overall on a personal level. He's obviously a good guy, and he is not an idiot. But let's keep things 100% real here. Rivera has been a head coach in this league closing in on nearly a decade now. He has transcendent talent anchoring both sides of the football in Cam Newton/Luke Kuechly.

We cannot keep making excuses after witnessing the same mistakes year in and year out that anyone else would or should learn from and adapt moving forward. Should Rivera be fired? Obviously not. We still have a season to play. But at some point we can no longer chalk these gaffes up as inconsequential or ignore them.

There's no way a meticulous guy like David Tepper isn't watching things closely, if rowdy hooligans like those here on the huddle notice this you can bet your ass he is. If he hasn't yet he definitely will by the time the end of the season rolls around because we have some tough games ahead.

Regardless, if Ron wants to keep coaching the Carolina Panthers, he's going to have to start evolving more or someone else will be waiting to replace him. Things change quickly in the NFL. That's all there is to it.

The DL would have laid on top of him, the refs would have let them, Cam would have started pushing players off of him, refs would throw a flag on Cam for 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct, game over.

It wasn't bad play calling. The head coaching was solid, not spectacular for this game. Rivera does need to hone in on what is causing the delays getting the play calls to the offense because whatever it is, it's a liability. So far, Chase Blackburn's approach to Special Teams has been killer. Norv and Washington are feeling things out on offense and defense four games in with three wins. The Rivera hate in this thread is comical. It's easy to pretend you'd do better, especially after the game is over. Some of you need to take a Xanax and have a nap nap.

No doubt every defender would throw themselves on Cam and take as much time as they could getting off. I'd doubt we'd have plenty of time on the clock.

Whereas a pass play we can do and throw away to stop the clock rather than worry about that. That's the whole reason why runs under 2 minutes make little sense.

All fairness on 4th and 1 I would've brought the FG unit out anyways rather than potentially risk wasting more time with a Cam sneak, imo. 

The whole 3rd and 1 run was the dumbest decision of it all, btw. Seriously will never understand the point.
