I never blamed Gettleman for not giving Norman the long-term deal he was wanting. I only blamed him for yanking the tag after primary free agency was long past leaving us no viable manner of finding a decent replacement for Norman which led to hs spamming draft picks at CBs just to be able to field a secondary. Hindsight is always 20/20 but we should've allowed Norman to play out the season under the tag and wished him well after 2016. I know he hadn't signed the tag yet, but he was going to. Players often wait until the last minute to sign the tag because that's the only leverage they have to try to get that long-term deal.

Well it could also be shown that if Josh sucks for Washington, and was awesome for the Panthers,..

it was ALL McDermott,..

Unfortunately for Josh it took him awhile to get on the field in Carolina and somewhat keep his emotions in check. Dude could have had some great years here if not for that.

I honestly think he checked out mentally there towards the end of last season.  His mind is already in Carolina (he has even discussed coming back already, on top of criticizing Washington's staff last season), so he just doesn't want to be there.

I've got a question in regards to the Norman debate.

I've seen a couple of people calling Norman a top corner while also stating that he needs to be in the right system to succeed.

Is it really possible for both of those things to be true?

Can you rightly be called a top player at your position if you have to be in the right system to play well?

 His “agent” or whoever it was supposed to be repping him, actually pulled off one of the best scenarios an agent could possibly pull off for Josh. He walked in that room with 14M guaranteed if he signed and played. Three days later, Josh had 50M guaranteed before he played another snap. 

  And Gettleman panicked and believed he wouldn’t sign it. Huge mistake. Now I wasn’t confident at all that Josh would have been “cool” with playing on the tag, and would have been some sort of distraction. Just how much who knows. But you have to keep him that late in the process. And using the money to extend Coleman(not smart) and Oher(unlucky) didn’t help.

  Josh was smart. He can chase rings and play for anyone after this year. No way Im turning down 36M extra before I play another down. 

 If he could be convinced to move to FS.....now we’re talking.

Norman ultimately got paid for a level of play that he hasn't lived up to. I think that's more an accident of fortune than it is smart planning though.

Oh. I don’t think he planned it. It’s possible. But IMO it was a lucky accident. The guy went nuclear by saying Josh would never sign. Like about 50% of franchise tag players bluff and do. Gman folded. I just don’t see them thinking he would even consider letting him walk. But he did. And he got (over)paid for it. As you said. 

 I don’t think any of the big time agents would even consider trying this. When has it worked? Because this is exactly what every player on a tag wants. Free Agency. And didn’t Josh supposedly fire him? For making him insta-rich?

I know Norman isn't the first guy to have the tag rescinded. It's happened a few times before. I couldn't tell you whether the guys who had it happen were successful or not though. I'd have to look that up.

there's a lot of speculation that the next guy it's going to happen to will be Le'Veon Bell.
