The Bucs come back wasnt Riveras fault

Let's kill the myth that the Panthers "took their foot off of the gas". I think this is an assumption based on Ron Rivera's history of going conservative with a big lead. In this game, the Panthers actually stayed aggressive, but Tampa made some adjustments that allowed them to stage a comeback.

1. Offensively, the Panthers stayed aggressive and were passing the ball in the 2nd half with a lead. Tampa Bay ran some defensive line stunts to throw off the pass protection and the first 2 drives ended in sacks. 

2. Ron actually went for it on 4th and 1 up 35-21. Cam converted but we got an illegal motion penalty. We went for it on 4th and 6 as well but the Bucs got a stop.

3. On defense, the Panthers were still playing a lot of man coverage but the Bucs adjusted by using the rub concepts I showed in an earlier post. When the Panthers went zone to defend these route combos, the Bucs were able to get their offense in rhythm. They also exploited man coverage by attacking that OJ Howard/Mike Adams mistmatch.

4. On the 3rd and 17, it looked like Donte made a rookie mistake. Not sure why he went to the flat and passed of the WR to the safety.

These are all things that can be fixed. I like how the team responded on the 3rd drive in the 2nd half to put the game away. Would've been nice to have perfect execution for all 4 quarters but Tampa Bay is a pro football team too.

Completely agree.  I was frustrated yesterday too during their comeback but in the game thread I was arguing these points too.  I've seen when Rivera goes conservative, yesterday wasn't that.

Do you not understand the part about the Bucs adjusting to our man coverage by using rub routes? We stay in man and they pick us apart with that.

The Bucs have the #1 offense for a reason and have put up big comebacks against every team they have gotten down against except the Bears. Down 20 at half against the Steelers and came back to nearly win or tie the game. Down 15 against the Bengals in the 4th quarter and they came back to tie the game only to lose on a last second FG. Down 10+ to the Falcons and they came back and should have scored on a last second play to win if Desean Jackson caught the lateral.

There's a reason the Bucs had the #1 passing offense. They can really move the ball when they want to. They may be the basement dwellers in the NFC South right now, but if they were in the AFC East or AFC South they'd be contending for a division title against those chump teams.

I noticed that too. Even Ronde Barber noted how effective the secondary was, particularly Bradberry against Evans, in press coverage. So of course, in grand fashion, we play zone with a 10-yard cushion. 

Rivera is just not an aggressive coach. If Belichick can beat you by 50, you damn well better believe he'll beat you by 50. Not 49 and then let up a little so you can catch your breath. No, that fugger will pound you into submission. Rivera is the epitome of playing not to lose instead of playing to win.

Cam has that killer mentality where he wants to score on every possession. Luke seems to not want to allow one stinking yard to the offense. He's pissed at 5-yard gains on first and second down. That's killer, crush a mofo, instincts. I'm sure Rivera had it as a player but lost it along the way as a coach.

Yeah, but man with 5-7 yards cushion is not the same as press man.

Maybe it was my perception, but I was wondering why we weren’t running the ball and killing the clock in the second half. For once it seemed like we had a big enough lead to use Rivera’s prevent offense, and we decided not to.

But we had dbs running backwards before the ball was hiked giving the WRs plenty of space, to me that’s being conersvaitve.

Evans had 1 catch for 16 yards and Desean Jackson had 2 catches for 32 yards. We got beat by the TE's and slot WR we have never really played press man against them so what exactly are you talking about?
