Why Rivera is almost certainly not going to fire a coordinator during the season

Last nights blow out was a blessing in disguise.  If we would have lost, but was 'close' (two score game) then I don't think changes would be coming,  But the blowout against his new owners former team? I guarantee there will be moves, be it not official for the media but I'm sure Rivera has seen enough of this Defense to know it has to change.  Perhaps keep the title of D coordinator but be much like Shula is on the Giants team, not the play caller, more like the fluffer.

as far as i know (could be wrong) rivera has blamed coaching exactly 0 times in any press conference. he blames players. they need to execute better. if we're pass rushing with 2 guys and drop the 2 DEs into coverage and allow a 30 yard pass as a result, well the 2 pass rushers should have executed better and defeated the entire offensive line. it's not the playcaller's fault for being a bonehead.

I think you’re a little off base about this one. He does blame player execution but regularly says that’s “it’s the coaches responsibility to put them in a position to win”

I think he does a pretty good job of owning responsibility in the face of hard questions and very rarely calls someone out individually, player or coach.

Keeps everything in house and away from the vultures. Nothing to be gained by that other than losing the respect of your locker room.

I will say that after letting some teams back in earlier on in the year, in the Baltimore and Bucs games, Rivera via Norv kept the hammer down for the entire game on offense. That tells me he's learning, whether it's self reflection or Norv/Tepper getting in his ear. Hopefully, as you say, this embarrassing performance will light a fire under him to whip the defense into shape.

Feel like he's going to go into this offseason and Tepper is going to give RR a choice.

New DC, and Rivera stays.  Or Rivera can continue to be loyal, and the house is cleaned.  Sucks if we lose Norv that way (can't imagine he'd stay), but every...single....year....we have this talk about Rivera. He's forced into making better calls with players, he's forced into making better calls with staff.  At some point he's going to be forced out the door.

I don't know.

Delhomme's meltdown in Arizona during the playoffs was pretty bad.

The score differential wasn't as bad, but that was a pretty low and embarrassing point in the franchise.

Agreed. I joined the huddle way back then just to blow off steam about that ol' BS
