Who is a better coaching candidate for Panthers than Mike McCarthy?

You know, I did a lot of thinking about potential candidates and I truly believe McCarthy is the best one.

In 13 years with the Packers, the Packers had 8 10+ winning seasons (9 playoff appearances) and only three seasons with less than 8 wins (2006, 2017 with Rodgers injured, and this season).  The only other season where he missed the playoffs was in 2008 with Rodgers having his first year as a starter and the team suffering from multiple injuries.  People are going to try and detract from him by saying "he had Aaron Rodgers", but as we have seen it is still not easy to consistently win the NFL even when you have the QB.  And even before Rodgers, Favre was old in 2007 and had a couple of really bad seasons prior to and McCarthy helped coach him to one of his best seasons.  On top of that, McCarthy is also credited by a lot of people for coaching up Rodgers and working with him on his mechanics.  Could you imagine the work he could/would do with Cam Newton?

Packers offense was consistently one of the best and most dynamic in the NFL throughout McCarthy's tenure.  While McCarthy isn't blameless, a large reason why issues arose with the offense this year is because Rodgers isn't very good at playing within the system.  No doubt he's an elite level QB, but he can be overly reliant on backyard football.  A report came out on how Rodgers would always check out of McCarthy's plays or divert away from the gameplan.  Cam Newton has proven this year with Turner that he is willing and capable of playing within a scheme.

McCarthy knows how to win, which is what this franchise needs.  And in Green Bay, they rarely dipped into free agency.  McCarthy could be even better with a GM willing to make splash moves.  We have the offensive talent to excel in his offense; Moore and Samuel are in the same mold of receivers he tends to like (Jennings, Cobb, Jones, etc.) and C-Mac would be the best RB he's ever had.

I'm not saying he is the best candidate... I'm just not sure who is better.  Can anyone think of one?

This reminds me of the Andy Reid situation.  Reid and the Eagles needed to split just like McCarthy and the Packers needed to split, but Reid was clearly a great coach just like McCarthy is.  I really think McCarthy coming here into a fresh and far less toxic situation will not only do wonders for the Panthers, but propel us to a level of consistency we have never seen.  Hell, McCarthy is about the same age as Reid was when he was let go from the Eagles, so not only would we have a coach for the next 5 years plus, but he could potentially be the guy who helps us find Newton's successor.  Could you imagine if we had a coach like McCarthy here to help ease the Newton-next QB (whenever that may be, it's gonna be a long time) transition?  Reid did the exact same thing with the Chiefs taking them from Alex Smith to Patrick Mahomes.

Maybe I'm tripping, but McCarthy and the Panthers seem like such a good fit together.

no fukking way.  i wonder why his record was so good, hmmmmm.   hmmmmmm.   i just can't quite put my finger on it.  i have one of those mark my words feelings that the reason his record was so good isn't going with him, but i still can't quite grasp it with vacuum stats.

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
