Eric Reid deserves a long-term contract

If he’ll have us, and the GM & Tepper want him back, I’d hope he’d stick with us.

He’s young and a leader. I believe he can be the leader of the secondary. Donte Jackson already respects him, and looks up to him greatly. Pair him with a ball hawk FS, and we’ll see great things from our secondary. I love how he has others on that field fear him coming.

You hit the nail on the head with that statement  In today’s pass happy game you need a rangey safety who can make plays (create pass break ups and INTs). Unfortunately, these guys don’t grow on trees. Historically, our FO hasn’t placed a lot of emphasis on drafting safeties in the early rounds of the draft. Imagine if we had a Harrison Barnes or Earl Thomas type player paired with Reid on the backend.

Gauldean ain’t it. That’s all I gotta say on that.

Anyways, there’s ways of combing old school with the new. Eric is an old school player. Bring a ball hawk in here to pair with him, and we in business. We’ve finally lucked into a good safety, that can be here for awhile. I hope Tepper doesn’t let a few fans who dislike Reid for his beliefs, and don’t really care about the team as much as they say, keep him from signing him long term.

Donte, Bradberry, Cockrell, Reid, and rookie FS. Pair that with a rebuilt DL, and were set to go

Reid is a definite upgrade over Searcy

Him, Bradberry, and a younger safety, and a serviceable nickle CB  paired together along with a semblance of a pass rush could be quite good

I for one hope we can resign him to a fair deal. He hasn't been perfect but he has improved as the season has progressed and he is more comfortable in the defense.

Would save us some draft capital that we are going to need for improving both lines

Reid needs to stay, I dunno what some of you are seeing. When is the last time you saw Adams do anything...

I'd like to see Reid as the veteran presence, with Gaulden, and FA depth brought in to round out the group, the only way for young guys to get better is to play, and the only way that happens here is with a cut / injury.

We have been terrible at developing depth, name ONE young defender you're excited about not named Donte' Jackson, and you'd have to wonder if they'd have played him over Cockrell if he hadn't broken his ankle.

To me the coaching vision, and mindset has to come into the modern era, a team full of vets in this new pace of play NFL isn't going to be able to sustain, you need people that know the game correct, but you also need guys that can play sideline to sideline on defense, and right now at least two of our defenders (TD & Adams) are getting worse, and worse at that.

I loved TD's game, but he can't play the same game anymore, what's the last play you recall him making that had impact, same for Adams? I feel like Luke is being asked to cover too much of the responsibility, The others at the 2nd and 3rd level of the defense don't show up consistently enough, as a whole it's sad to see as a fan.

    • Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.
    • Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.
    • Its a good article about how pathetically bad our past drafts ('23 and '24) have been. Building the team in '23 since we weren't ready yet and taking your qb in '24 made so much more sense in hindsight. Ladd McConkey over XL is pretty much a given but not sure it does as much to change Bryce's trajectory as the author suggests.  As bad as '23 and '24 drafts were, the '25 and '26 really give me hope.
