Newton's longevity

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Time to protect the franchise and draft a decent backup QB  who can be serviceable for the future

Newton is an extremely hard worker, no question and he seems to still love the game

He is approaching 30 however and there is no real backup behind him

he also is in a contract year in 2020

it is time to think of life after Cam.  He may not want to stay in Charlotte.

We have no facts about his shoulder either but when a starting QB can’t throw a Hail Mary and has little accuracy on his throws beyond 15 to 20 yards, and maybe to protect his shoulder does not seem to want to run anymore at all,, that is a problem...  two games we may have won if he just used his legs but seem d to not want to run

Cant win in the NFL like that.

Before the season started we did not invest too much into a back up.  Why?  Because it was understood if Cam is injured the season is done.  So why we did not invest much in the OL to protect Cam?   This right here is the real question and from my point of view the main indictment against Hurney.

Cam has struggled staying healthy the past couple years and I’d love to see his stats the first half of the year versus the 2nd half over the past 3 years. My guess is we’re already seeing the decline.

I’d say he has 2-3 years left playing at a high level.

He kinda does... mistake prone in a offense that is catered to the pass where he is the only nfl talent. Go back and ask where was this at Florida

Are you suggesting we should doubt a quarterback who couldn't win the starting job at Florida?

The fact is Newton is fairly young and has had one major injury. Under Rivera though I doubt he makes it much more than 5 years because they use him as their main running back even now with CMC. If their ever was a time to rebuild its now. We need to restructure the team to protect Newton or any other QB after him and at the same time retool the defense. Let him get the surgery he needs while we regroup.

and he can easily be a top tier qb the next ten years. [He's not interested in playing another 10 years.  Entertainers & icons don't have to.]

Love to hear this source where you already know he doesn't want to play as long as any other fiery competitor.  Or are you referencing when he said that his rookie year, 8 years ago :eyeroll:

Newtons longevity ...hmmm... we could be witnessing the end...no way to know depending on the shoulder... hes won everywhere hes gone...i don't think he has finished his job here...panthers have 2 years left so...plenty of time to figure it out....if you're smart...and, you get rid of hurney...um, and riv.
