Rapoport: Newton to sit

Ron had already stated he was playing Cam, so this decision had to come from either the medical staff, Cam himself, or Tepper stepped in.

He actually said everything but. There are no quotes of Rivera saying that he was going to play Cam. All he said was that he wouldn't commit to sitting him and that he needed to talk to Cam and look at the medical reports before making a decision.

Here are my two questions that if Tepper is asking place Ron and Hurney on a much hotter seat than speculated:

If we sit Cam after he re-aggrevates/re-injures shoulder after the Pitt game, what changes about our record?

If we had gone into the season thinking Heinicke was not a valid replacement option and had gotten a semi-decent replacement ie a Bridgewater or a Tyrod, what changes about our record?

In a lot of different ways, we grossly mismanaged our season by not having a valid QB2, not sitting QB1 when we should have reasonably known it was time for IR, and not quitting when the time to do so was staring us in the face.  The ironic part about it is that if Rivera/Hurney put Cam on IR after Pitt game, maybe some questions are raised about why we didn't invest more draft/trade/etc capital in a valid backup, but far less questions arise when one of your best players/your franchise QB goes on IR than in THIS garbage situation we've put ourselves in.  This, more than anything, has me questioning the future of our coaching/front office staff.

If it’s true then I’m shocked. We still have like a 1% chance to make the playoffs. Was sure Ron would play Cam until they had to carry his arm off the field on a stretcher.

Forget that, they would had to find it laying on the other side of the field somewhere first after he came back to the sideline without it.

There are lot of questions to be asked, but the thought that sits in the front of my mind right now is this:

I always knew there was going to come a day when I watched the last Panthers game ever to be quarterbacked by Cam Newton.

If it turns out that either his shoulder injury is more severe than anyone knows or that he's going to wind up somewhere else rather than be extended here, then there's the possibility that last game we watched was it.

I absolutely do not want that game to be my last memory of Cam Newton's Panthers career.

Could be worse. He could've limped into the playoffs and gotten the Dan Marino sendoff.

That's not saying that this is the end of the road. Only that immediate plans must have a contingency for that possibility.

Rivera said that Cam is not going on IR, so I'm a bit confused.

Heinicke is going to start. Who is his backup?

Sure seems like Cam is going to be asked to step in if something happens to Heinicke.

This is pure bullshit. Cam should be put on IR and his shoulder given top priority. I don't care if the bagger from Food Lion is the backup, but how do you justify putting Cam in uniform AT ALL?

Idiots.

    • Ironic that out of all of the multiple players listed, you zeroed in on Bryce Young and only Bryce Young. No mention of Derrick Brown or Jaycee Horn... Hell, we can even add Icky to the mix but sure... let's laser-focus on Bryce. That's a hell of a mirror for you to run into. 👀 I'm not sure what "wisdom" you think you're imparting to the front office beyond the idea that the being Panthers means that they're destined to suck forever. That doesn't exactly sound like wisdom as much as it sounds like the same relentless doompilling you've been committed to. But sure, let's pretend it's "rational" to condemn a pick after limited rookie action and an injury setback (and that anything less than full-blown pessimism is bootlicking). That's certainly the lighthouse we all need in the storm that you insist is eternal... at least until you and only you, decide it's not. Unlike you, I'm not asking anyone to leave. I'll just keep showing up with facts and context. You're more than welcome to keep showing up with doom and gloom.
    • So you don’t think with his weight down /position more similar to what it was in 2023 he’s capable of 10+sacks? I don’t watch college football so just going off the write ups, like getting the opinions from folks who do
    • I'm excited for Scourton. Even if the sack numbers aren't there right away, he'll contribute and has a certain floor IMO. Would be thrilled if he can turn into a Charles Johnson-type contributor one day. Never a star (though, please do), but reliable and damn good at what he does.
