Marty Hurney hasn't put together a winning roster since 2008

Last year was Gettleman's roster, Hurney didn't draft anyone or sign anyone. This is the first year he got to do that since 2012 and we have another losing season.

People talking about Hurney 2.0 changing, and that very well could be the case, but he certainly hasn't gotten any better at putting a roster together top to bottom, and that is evident in the fact that it has been a decade since he put together a winning team.

This is why ultimately, if we do keep Rivera, we need a new GM. Rivera has proven he can win with someone else as the GM of the Panthers, but he has never won when Hurney has put together a roster.

I would love for us to just start fresh and clean house between Rivera and Hurney, but it seems more and more likely we are retaining Rivera, so trim the fat of the least qualified GM in the NFL.

Hurney had a solid draft this year so you are talking out of you ass like the rest here.

DJ Moore

Donte Jackson

Ian Ihomas (Olsen's Replacement

thats a damn good draft but the cry babies here will never give Hurney credit for anything good.

He drafted the top WR that fell to him. And the guy Cam and Norv told him to draft.  Its hard to give him credit there

Jackson looks Solid as does Thomas

While Gaulden looks to be a bust and Haynes looks like a wasted pick.

Drafting is just PART of the puzzle as well.  You have to get the key puzzle piece FA to complete the puzzle.

Poe (who our own rivals tried to warn us about), Bust

Torrey Smith- Bust

Searcy- bust

CJ Anderson- bust

Backup QB- Bust

On first look, it was a good draft.

But the fact is, Hurney has been GM for 12 years and created 4 winning season...

Hurney has drafted studs in the past. I'm not arguing that. He gave us Luke, TD, and Cam. Can't win with 3 stars and the rest of the roster is filled with complete scrubs, like he has done many times before in the past. You need to surround those studs with guys that compliment them.

Either way, for the rookie class it's far too early to judge them one way or the other.

Remember Keary Colbert? David Gettis? Benwikere? Benjamin? Rookies can look good and then do absolutely nothing their second and 3rd years. I'm not ready to Crown Hurney our savior when the fact is we haven't won with him at the helm for over a decade now.

Lets see how they are in another year or 2

Gettleman had 1-2 drafts with seveeal guys on the all-rookie team with 2-3 guys being 1st round guys on reDrafts.  Then another year to 2 later, that same draft looked like crap.  Heck Bene was the #1 rookie DB and was top 15 on all the writers redrafts following his rookie year.  Now look at him (dude fell off after he broke his leg)

did you see anderson this past sunday?

he far from a bust and could have help us here but the Norv for whatever reason did'n use him.

True

But he was also cut by 2 other teams after we released him for a reason.

He is a alright RB, but ended up being a terrible signing for us

First of all, save the "bust" label for high draft picks who fail to reach their potential. Secondly, every one of these guys were logical moves at the time considering that we weren't awash in cash. Poe hasn't lived up to potential, but he's still demands a double-team like the best of them, and he's really not been that much worse than Star (and his salary reflects his play). Smith was a backup from the beginning in mind. Searcy was hurt, but known as being serviceable to slightly above average. Anderson was insurance, but C-Mac proved to be up to three-down back duties notwithstanding his smaller stature, so poo happens. Nothing and no one is perfect.

Backup QB? Are you serious? Who the fug were we going to acquire to back up a firmly a entrenched Cam Newton that would really be worth a damn and want to come here?

Gaulden may be a flop, but the jury is still out. Even if he is, three starter-level players in a draft is pretty damned good.

Lack of money was a big problem, as well as availability of upgrades at key positions. Notwithstanding, Hurney made some good decisions. Perfect decisions? No. But trying to pin this past season on him before you talk about Gettleman's malfeasance, Ron's personnel moves, or Cam's bad play---or turnovers in general---is a failure to see the bigger picture.

Like I said in another thread, once we fired Hurney we started winning. Once he was rehired we started losing. Coincidence...? I think not.

1. Gaulden maybe can be held off as a bust.  But the kid had the lowest athletic score of any Safety to come through the combine.  And was projected as a 5th round guy.   We've seen this move before with Charles Godfrey and Sherrod Martin.  When put in during preseason for the injured Searcy, he got beat repeatedly and picked on.  He11 Ron trusted collin fugging Jones over him.

2. Poe has Rarely seen a double team this year, and has been manhandled by single teams.  Our own fugging division rival warned us as they didnt even attempt to sign him.  Dude isnt the same guy that was in KC.  It isnt a coincidence that KK and Addison's play dropped off and Luke had his worst year the same time we replaced Star with Poe.

3. Smith wasnt a backup, he was brought in to start and groom DJ.

4. Searcy was avg in camp and preseason and didnt look any better than Coleman when we cut him.  This is prior to him even getting injured.

5. Backup QB, we didnt even attempt to draft one when everyone pointed out we needed too.  He just waited to get some scrub as a UFA as the primary backup to Cam.

We didnt have money correct but, hell anyone can go out and build a fugging roster with $$.   The good GMs, the NFL level GMs go find the cheap key pieces to build and complete the puzzle.

Fugging Hurney got canned and this team had a helluva a lot less cap.

But it was the Key cheap Puzzle Pieces that completed the puzzle to get the 2015 team where they were at.  The Peanuts, Colemans, the Ginns, Harpers, Ohers etc.  Not 1 Hurney signee this year is even in the same breathe as those guys

Hurney got fired for being the worst at his job in the league.  And Didnt Get A Call From Anyone Else.....For A Reason.  He11 Hugh Fugging Jackson even got a call acter being canned from Cleveland.   That shows you what the rest of the league sees in Hurney

You ever see a post start with one way of thinking ("everyone one of those guys were logical moves at the time") and then end up the total opposite ("Gettleman's malfeasance")?

Looking back at a losing season and saying "but hey, we had a good draft" is pretty silly.

The NFL doesn't give out trophies for good drafts. They give out trophies for winning.

We could have the best draft in history. If we still put together a losing season, it doesn't mean jack sh-t.
