#Panthers Top 10 Paid Players. CAR has the 11th least cap space w/ $26.8M, of which $119.5M (63%) tied up in their Top 10. Most of their top 10 players have significant amounts of dead money ($8.5M+) attached to their cap numbers, but restructuring top 3 can create more space:

CAR fans might want to get rid of CB Munnerlyn, but would need to find a replacement for him at $2M to realize any savings. If CAR addresses CB in the draft, Munnerlyn could be a post-Jun 1 cap casualty and add $3.5M in cap space in 2019.

I still think the best thing Carolina could do with Munnerlyn is move him back to safety to replace the aging Adams. Captain is a willing and aggressive tackler and could work much better in open space and assisting in coverage rather than taking on slot receivers (and we don't see many dedicated slot receivers anymore, but we do see WR1s lining up in the slot creating terrible mismatches with Munnerlyn).

The answer is on the team and it's Dante Jackson. We need a proven starting veteran corner. Most likely we go into next season with the starting secondary looking exactly the same.

This is a very popular trend around the league knowing it creates a mismatch with any #1 or 2 WR against a safety, nickle (at best) or a LB. Colleges are doing it as well.

What that chart shows me is that Carolina fails to pay players based on their expected future performance. That is what the team should be paying for, as opposed to paying players for past performance. When you pay for past performance, as Carolina has seemingly done, you end up with far too many players being overpaid for their level of production...and a pissy salary cap situation. Same old, same old, I guess.

Just cut him outright and save the money with the intent to address the nickel position in free agency or the draft.

We still have Cockrell coming back but Im not sure if he can cover inside. Plus other options can be evaluated at the position ie Corn, Doss and Gaulden. We really need a FS if we can get Reid to come back and play SS. Either way, I think we have seen the last of Captain in our uniform hopefully.

      We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that

      There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.

      Sounds like Veesaar is entering the draft. He could always test the waters and pull out and return but without him our big men look like a serious liability. Better do something in the portal. If they don't do something about this portal madness my days as a college sports fan are probably numbered. This bullshit of having a nearly entirely new team every season is gonna get old fast.
