Defense wins championships...

Things have changed and its definitely more geared to offense now, but you still need to be balanced.  And defences will adapt.  What you need is a high octane O and a D that might not neccessarilly stop teams every drive but that you can count on to produce a couple turnovers consistently.

Which is why we desprately need to upgrade our D line - disrupt and force mistakes.

When the Saints had a top 5 offense and poor defense they went 7-9 three years in a row. When the defense markedly improved suddenly they win the division twice and are still contending this year. Football is a team sport. To win a Superbowl you have to be relatively healthy and play well on both sides of the ball.

Offensive lines win championships...........compare out the Colts line played two weeks ago to how they played against KC.

If you can't dominate the line on offense you can't move the chains........if you can't move the chains then put your D back out on the field and wear them out..........

I rest my case.

The average offensive ranking of the four final teams is #4 (#1, #2, #5, and #8).

The average defensive ranking is #21 (#14, #19, #21, and #31).

The league has changed. You have to have an elite offense to compete.

You can get in the playoffs with an outstanding offense or defense but to win the Superbowl the side that got you there has to perform and the other side which was lagging has to play above their regular season play. So in essence both sides of the ball are doing well during the playoffs

I'm sure there's a site somewhere that could look it up / present it, but it would be interesting to see how many of the rushing attempts by the remaining playoff teams were when they were tied or trailing versus ahead in the game.  I suspect that these teams are using the rush to grind out the clock once they get a good lead.  Again, I can't find the stats to prove that, it's just a suspicion.  It's very clear all of these teams are very accomplished scoring offenses.

I do recall on the broadcast the announcers saying the Saints led the league in fourth quarter time of possession.
