Interesting note from Draft Analyst writer Tony Pauline from the Shrine Bowl:

“...scouts and general managers are complaining this will be one of the worst draft’s for prospects from the scoring side of the ball in a long time.  Right now they project as many as 70 of the top 100 players drafted coming from the defensive side of the ball.”

Obviously things can change with free agency, but I think we’ll focus mainly on defense and the offensive line in the upcoming draft. This makes me wonder if we’ll see more teams inclined to trade down to start stockpiling for the 2020 and 2021 drafts.

So I wonder what that might do for the cost to keep Williams.  

May have Speed Bimp McGee at LT for another year.

Williams is going to get major major money provided he can pass a physical given all the teams with cap space.

Be careful with that take... hard to even deal with anything around here with all the irrational negativity on this board right now.

Wish we were in better cap shape but the Panthers do have 4 picks in the first 3 rounds and have an opportunity with another good draft to have a solid roster next year.

Most of the highly drafted OTs have been busting in recent years anyway. The better OTs seem to be coming in the mid-rounds these days.

The offensive positions that we need to address (interior OL) tend to be mid-round picks for the most part anyway.

I'd be just fine with us draft heavily on the DL and secondary. Give me a DE, DT, and a FS with three of our top four picks and I'd be tickled pink.

Regardless of anything and/or everything that happens between now and next September, the health (primarily the shoulder) of #1 is going to have the biggest impact on how next year goes.

This team was too old on defense to win a SB, but we would have been a playoff team had Cam stayed healthy.

This team will probably be somewhere between 6-10 and 10-6 next year, just like most teams unless some things fall our way or Cam is unavailable.

Knowing otherwise without pure speculation before halfway through next season is not realistic

Very good point and I agree with you 100% about the draft.

I do think if Hurney splurges at all in FA (and it will be one player at most given our cap situation) I believe it will be at DE just bc of the amount of time it takes to develop those guys.

We also need guys like Obada and Haynes to contribute next year too hopefully

      Many layers my frend- Panthers had a draft recently. They picked 4 defense players. Each player picked 11, 22, 33, 55 as their number. For some players that number match the round or pre-draft round rank, example- Prince was a 3rd rounder and choose 33. Nic was a 1st rounder on some mock drafts and Dan Morgan said they had him as a 1st, he picked 11. Cam Jackson recently switched his number to 55, same as draft and has been telling Dave he wants to be special over and over.  The 44 was to add GOAT feels, thoughts, and more intrigue to this rookie phenomenon. X files was cause it was a great TV show and maybe it was playing when this theory came together.......   I hope this helps!

      The best things Purdy has are certainly important tools for any QB. His accuracy his timing his decision making etc. I feel like he is a high end Teddy Bridgewater. You can compete and win in the regular season with this especially in a weakened NFC but where his limitations come into focus is when you are trying to contend for a Super Bowl you are going against elite and in some instances generational QB's like Mahomes. And when the time has come for him to go up against Mahomes he simply can't get it done. Now certainly he is not alone in that regard and people will point to another highly regarded QB such as Josh Allen who also cannot get by Mahomes. But the difference I see is Allen is not IMO at a phsyical disadvantage in that matchup whereas Purdy is. And that is with what had been to this point a comically stacked roster around Purdy and let's be clear we cannot understate that regardless of which side of the fence we land on in this debate. Purdy has had a top 5 roster and a top 5 coach. And the last time they went to the Super Bowl they leaned on McCaffrey extremely heavily. Now with what they are having to pay him and divert limited resources elsewhere they face a steep climb to get back to the Super Bowl let alone actually win it.

      Lonzo mentioned Melo going to the Clippers, but he also said we would draft Dylan Harper and he isn't making it to 4.
