CMC, not Cam, is the face of the Franchise

You see him everywhere now. CMC is now the face of the franchise.  Not to mention he is an absolute stud.

Buckle up, because I am going to speak some truth. Disclaimer, I am a Cam fan, true and true.

Cam has been a lightning rod for criticism even before he hit the league.  Maybe it’s because he came from the SEC, and he plays in SEC country. He is very eccentric in the way he talks, dresses, and acts.  He is an odd dude (not that that’s a bad thing).  He has made some questionable comments which have gotten him in trouble, and he spent his first couple of seasons pouting at the mic after losing games.

These are all things we, as fans, put up with and see beyond.  Again, most of the knocks he gets from people outside of the Panthers org/fan base are just because they don’t understand/accept him.

This thread isnt about trashing Cam, because I stand behind him.  Its an observation that our QB, in the prime of his career, has taken the back seat in regards to being the face of the Panthers.

Is it a good thing? Does it take pressure off him (he has carried a lot on his shoulders)?  Is it a bad thing?  He seems to relish as the center of attention.  I don’t know!  What I do know is I’m happy to have both of these guys.

Face of the franchise CMC?

Hell Steve Smith is still probably more the face of the franchise than CMC.

CMC is not seen any more than Luke.

It would be at least semi debatable if you were saying Luke.

Everyone I know, all the talking heads, etc talk about Cam first.   CMC is just a weapon.  Will that change?  Who knows.

But to say CMC is the face of the franchise?  thats a  no go.

Little early to say that. Given their respective ages though (and Newton's health issues) you can probably expect it to shift in that direction at some point.

The NFL certainly likes McCaffrey. They've featured him in something like three commercials this year, including the recent NFL 100 ad.

Caveat, though. McCaffrey isn't yet locked up long term. We're only really guaranteed three more years, and if he continues his current level of production keeping him is going to be expensive.

it's not inconceivable he could wind up being the face and some other franchise.

The Panthers game against the Ravens featured tens of thousands of fans in Panthers jerseys, and 90% of them wore Luke jerseys. I think I saw three or four CMC jerseys and about 50 Cam ones. Otherwise they were all Luke, other than my buddy -- who wore a Jake jersey -- and me, in my Charles Johnson jersey

Valid, though worth noting that Kuechly has health concerns of his own.

If he stays healthy and if he signs long term (neither of which are guaranteed) McCaffrey will outlast Luke as a Panther as well.

    • We were very banged up going into that Rams game. Our second best player (Horn), our best safety, and both starting ILBs were out. I feel like our defense has really been impressive considering a year ago. If our offense learns how to be balanced like they were against the Rams, we can honestly beat anyone. Those losses to the Saints and 49ers may have been what we needed to figure out that when we depend too much on either running exclusively or passing exclusively that we are no good. That Rams game showed what we can do when we are in sync offensively and it was so much fun to watch. If that offense shows up this week then go ahead and cancel your plans the second weekend in January as you will have a game to watch.
    • and we won a game in the playoffs.....where our leading receiver was Fozzy Whitaker w/ just 39 rec yards.  That feels like a 2025 Panthers type winning setup.
    • Yep, the board has amnesia to the weekly swings and declarations made.  The same cast of characters has been talked about vastly different repetitively and you only have to go back as far as the game before the last one....and just keep repeating that pattern largely backwards.  I personally feel confident that this team is not bad and it is not good.  And while that is nice to get back to be out of the literal dumpster......I don't view this team as an average team w/ a puncher's chance.  All average teams are of different molds.  We are more the, if a really good team plays bad, you will lose to us variety.  We aren't bad enough where you can get away with a bad day vs us anymore.
