What a lousy strategy

Makes you wonder about the communication between McVay and Phillips.

I credit Phillips with the Bronco's SB win and if I had that guy on my staff I would definitely want to pick his brain.  What better way to get a handle on how to predict an opposing defenses' strategy than to ask your experienced DC?

But I guess if you are a young offensive 'super genius' you don't need all that help.

Phillips probably didn't have any input on the offensive side at all.

To his credit, McVay has at least accepted responsibility for the loss and admitted he blew it.

Well to be fair although Peyton sucked in the regular season he was great in those playoffs despite the physical limitations. His brain is arguably the best of all time at the QB position and he essentially coordinated his own offense on the field in real time, that’s no easy task to defend even with his arm being shot at the time...

That is being more than fair to Manning in that game.  I would not argue the point about his mental game, but the Broncos finished that game with 11 first downs, 194 yards, and only 104 through the air.  They were not a factor in the game.  The Broncos scored two TDs: One on defense, and one capped off a drive of about 4 yards.  Fact is the Panthers defense did more than what was needed to win that game.  The only thing more they could have done was scored.

It also sounds eerily the same as the Broncos defenders who basically said we ran nothing that they weren’t prepared to see. It’s not about abandoning, it’s about not being so predictable we blow our chance when we were the best team that season. Unfortunately, we blew it.

To quote Yogi Berra, it's deja vu all over again.

The major difference was the Rams pulled plays out of the playbook and the Panthers didn't try anything they hadn't done all season.  The major commonality was that both offenses refused to do anything to counter a huge pass rush.  In our case, one wonders how much benefit would have been gained by a few well-timed screen or swing passes on the side of Von Miller.  It's not like he would have read being not blocked on the play, because he wasn't blocked on almost any other play.

What Van Noy forgot to mention is that the Rams did not run a play they were not ready for because they had their usual spies watching all their practices and knew all their fuggin plays.

If I recall correctly, the Eagles ran a fake walkthrough the last year "just in case" :)

Told y'all McVay  was overrated.

Hes not the boy wonder you wanted him to be.

does this feel like making an award, giving it to yourself, and then telling everybody about it.  seems like that's what's going on here.  and you're probably wrong.   we'll see though.

Yeah, McVay has already admitted he screwed up and taken full responsibility for the loss.

(novel concept, I know)

You know that’s kind of his thing right? Falling on the sword for the team over and over again to the point it’s gotten a bit disingenuous. Nice quality to have I suppose but hearing him say that and only that each time would grow old.
