I don’t buy all this 3-4 talk.

We would need some major personnel changes to effectively run a 3-4 defense and to this date there hasn’t been any word about any changes.

We literally have 1 player from the front 7 that has ever played 3-4 and that is Dontari Poe who could still potentially be a cap casuality. Is Ron just assuming a guy like Mario is going to transition to a stand up pass rushing linebacker without any hiccups? I remember Peppers talked about the challenges going from 4-3 end to 3-4 olb and how he preferred to have his hand in the dirt.

I personally think it’s just an excuse for Ron and Hurney because they have no idea how to address the lack of pass rush with our limited cap space. Right now we would have to make some major moves to sign anyone worth starting. They must be crossing their fingers we nail someone in the draft because right now it doesn’t seem like we have any real plan in place.

Last time I remember the Panthers using a decent amount of 3-4 looks was 2011 and 2012 when we signed Antwan Applewhite and used him as a stand up pass rusher and those defenses were pretty bad.

When Greg hardy blew up in 2013 we ran 4-3 almost exclusively and our defense improved tremendously along with our win loss record. Crazy what a good pass rush can do.

I don't get the insecurities.

It's the 2nd day of free agency, and even come training camp in August, they aren't going to tell their plan.

Sit back and show some patience.

Product of the me generation and I have to see results right now.

Ron is more likely to order 3-4 pickles on his hamburger than change anything.

Some people just are convinced they can cram the square peg though the round hole.

And I think Rivera is that with this defense.  We hardly have anyone who fits that scheme yet Rivera will run it anyway.  Kind of like watching a Giants team try and run Read option with Eli Manning.

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
