Okay, so this would be a nice pickup to replace TD, depending upon the money required.

Team believes they already have TD's replacement in Shaq.

I don't anticipate us going after another LB, especially if we will be running more nickel this season. 3 LBs would put us behind on 3 receiver sets.

I think that if we actually believed that we'd go ahead and extend him now. I think we're hoping he's the replacement. If he proves to be, we're going to be kicking ourselves for not extending him now. If he proves not to be, we're going to be thanking our lucky stars that we didn't.

I still don't see how we aren't extending him yet, unless that is firmly on Shaq's camp's shoulders. People want to crap on him here, but he's not a bum. He's just not TD (then again not many are). He could be extended for a reasonable price but maybe he's refusing and betting on himself in order to get a bigger payday next year.

I'm still intrigued by Carter. He was good in college and still has potential to be a steal.

I'm intrigued by both Carter and Smith. Maybe one or both play a factor in why Shaq hasn't been extended. Maybe we think the answer is on the roster for a lot cheaper but isn't quite ready to start just yet.

(AP) — It had been a while since the Carolina Hurricanes had finished practice, with players coming and going from the locker room. Yet Logan Stankoven was still on the ice, leaving a crowd of reporters patiently waiting at his locker. Such is the dynamic for the 23-year-old as the Eastern Conference's top seed heads into Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs to face the Philadelphia Flyers. Stankoven has been rolling at nearly a point-per-game pace going back to mid-March, including scoring in every game of Carolina's first-round sweep of Ottawa. Beyond the immediacy of that spotlight, though, is the other piece of Stankoven's story: the Hurricanes are betting he can keep growing into the role as second-line center, coming after spending multiple seasons searching for an answer there.
