Fake news.

Here's the real dirty secret with the Saints.

Drew Brees looked pretty awful towards the end of the year. Can he play well rested in the first few weeks of the season? Of course. But he can't into the playoffs anymore.

Saints are toast. They all know it but have no choice but to go all in again next year.

Also lmao to the Saints giving up their first rounder for a dude who barely contributed last year.

Barely contributed? Lol. Davenport was really coming on before he had the turf toe that should have shut him down for the season. Double digit sacks this year.

41 million is cap number not his pay.

He doesn’t have a $41 million cap hit at any point.

The voodoo economics of salary cap manipulation can be very intoxicating for GMs.  It got Hurney fired the first time around and he is now at it again with the Paradis signing to the applause of the fan base.  3 years 27 million with a 3.8 million year 1 cap charge.

Update: The details of the contract are out, and the first year carries a cap hit of $3.8 million for the Panthers. Year 2 carries a cap hit of $8.3 million and Year 3 carries a cap hit of $9.8 million. There are two voidable years (2022 and 2023) at the end of the contract that void if Paradis is on the roster after Super Bowl LVI (Feb. 2022).

Tuesday eventually come, but we’re eating hamburger today.

Not fake news. Learn to understand signing bonus proration. This is just pushing cap effect of money already paid to him around.

Then why are the fans in Saints Report Forum in meltdown over it if it isn't real news.

Spotrack says cap number 41.3 million, zero dead money for 2020...

If you retire it is the same as being cut. You don't pay the salary but any remaining guaranteed money which is virtually how any restructure works by paying it up front now, would accelerate.  I don't think the new restructure is included. I think the restructure shown for 2019 is a previous restructure from 2018. Otherwise you can't go down in cap hit without kicking it down the road.

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/03/14/saints-set-to-carry-a-huge-cap-charge-for-drew-brees-next-year/

Even if Brees retires they are still on the hook for 21 million in cap hits for his contract

That’s how these so-called simple restructurings work. Cap dollars get pushed from the current year into future years, with the player’s compensation remaining unchanged. Because there is only one year left under Brees’ contract, the $10.8 million created this year can go to only one spot: 2020.

Coupled with the cap dollars that already were on the books for 2020 ($10.5 million), Brees’ cap number will be $21.3 million, whether he’s on the team or not.

Thus, if he retires or signs elsewhere, Brees will count for $21.3 million. If he stays, anything he makes as of next year will be added to the $21.3 million cap charge.

So if he re-signs for, say, one year and $20 million, his cap number for 2020 would be $41.3 million.

He has cap hits of $22, $15, and $5 million the next 3 years.

Try again.

Save your energy. 99% of the morons on this board don’t have the slightest clue how these things work.

That same 99% have been celebrating the last 3-4 years how the Saints have “no money” and yet here we are.

Those cap hits the next 3 years really aren’t that bad in the grand scheme of things

Saints and Brees have been done and broke for the last 2-3 years except they're not, he's not, and they continue to make the Panthers look stupid and make the playoffs with a legitimate shot.

It'll end someday but until then those are the facts.
