Clemson Fans what are your thoughts?

There are a ton of Clemson players in the draft but I would like to hear your thoughts on the following players. What are their strengths and weaknesses. What Round? 

Christian Wilkins

Clelin Ferrell

Dexter Lawrence

Trayvon Mullen

Austin Byrant 

Mark Fields

Shoulda went with 1981, they've been top 20 in attendance since then. 76k plus fans every home game in 2009.

I mean there was a time when “Clemsoning” was a thing. Bowden never took them over the hill. I say this as Clemson was my #2 team growing up before VT joined the ACC

My neighbors were huge Clemson fans and were flying Clemson flags pre 81. I've known diehard Clemson fans my whole life.

Been putting up with it from friends since I moved to Charleston in 2001 and made a bunch of new friends.  

Not a fan myself but this is far from true.

Christian Wilkins - 1st round. 

By far his biggest trait is his leadership and motor. Non-stop engine and will give his 100% every game. Excellent pass rushing ability for a DT. Love him.

 

Clelin Ferrell - 1st Round

Another great leader and person. A lot of people are a lot higher on him than me. Will be a solid player and contribute, but don’t imagine him being a top 10 player at his position in the NFL. He really benefited from players around him on the D-line. 

 

Dexter Lawrence - 1st Round

The most underrated prospect coming out of Clemson and this draft IMO. Dude is a monster in size and agility. CONSTANTLY double teamed and beating them on a regular bases. Clemson’s sack numbers are a lot in part because of this man. Honestly he’s my number 1 choice for our pick at 16. Would be a top 10 lock in almost any other year. 

 

Trayvon Mullen - Late 1st, Mid 2nd Round

The kid was lock down all 3 years at Clemson. Came in and started as a freshman and has kept the job every year. Hard to gauge him based on being behind the best D-line in the country. Has all the meausables you want in the NFL. Wouldn’t mind him in the 2nd. 

Mark Fields - 5th and beyond

Unbelievable talent. SUPER fast. His issue has been immaturity. Never fully bought into the culture and expectation Dabo has for his football players. Constantly suspended for being late, bad attitude, etc. Honestly, I wouldn’t want us to draft him at all.

I’m not a Clemson fan, but Dexter Lawrence is the best player in this draft IMO.  He is what star was for us for years, but he’s even bigger and more skilled. I can not believe where I am seeing him go in mocks. Would lose my poo to get him at 16.

So let me get this straight. CF is the only player on the Clemson dline that benefited from talent around him? I have a hard time believing that.

Absolutely not. They all did, but from a guy that watched every single Clemson game the whole time they’ve been here, I believe he has the least amount of NFL talent and benefited more than the other two studs than they benefited from him.

What does that mean, “nfl talent?” And can you actually break that down? I see a lot of people saying he benefited.... hows that? Did he see a significant drop in double teams as opposed to other DEs? Was the qb flushed out of the pocket from your DTs into CF every sack? Was the opposite DE facing the better OT? 

 

Im not saying there’s nothing to this assertion that CF benefited, but it’s like some sort of social media trend now that just caught on, like a wildfire. And the same isn’t said for the rest of Clemson’s DL which is really funny to me.

When I say NFL talent, I mean he was an absolute monster in college, but I don’t believe his collegiate numbers will translate to the NFL level. Will he be a solid starter? Absolutely. Will he be a Clowney, Watt, Miller, etc no, I don’t believe so.

As far as double teams, neither one of Clemson’s DE saw many double teams. Majority of double teams we’re put on our DTs, Lawrence and Wilkins, both in which we’re unbelievable. As far as being flushed out, YES, a ton. Our interior pressure was what other teams couldn’t adjust to. They’d have 3/4 lineman fighting off both Wilkins and Lawerance and the QB still got flushed out of the pocket. 

I cant speak to the social media trend, but I’ve felt this way before this year... CF is awesome, but he’s sliding down boards because he doesn’t have as high of a ceiling as Sweat, Gary, Bosa, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I bleed orange, but I wouldn’t be ecstatic if CF is the pick over a multitude of guys.
