Could be a depth guy, I hope we plan on trading up for Montez Sweat. These vet DE's are solid, but we need a young beast who can get after the QB. Trade our extra 3rd round pick and move up for Sweat please!

Sounds like Madden to me.

You’re asking to move into a top 5 pick to garauntee getting sweat and even then you’d have to be sure.

From 16 to top 5 is going to requiring a lot more than just an extra 3rd rounder.

And you’re doing so in a class full of dline talent, which should be in consideration.

I’m not knocking the motion though, O like sweat and walking away with the best DE prospect in the draft would be thrilling.l for the Panthers.

Now if he miraculously is there around the 10th pick, which is highly unlikely-borderline absurd, then you could probably move up and get him but I suspect it’d be at least a second rounder.

You took my comment and ran with it huh?

I never said he we should trade up into the top 5. Obviously a 3rd wouldn't be enough to move up that high. I was saying if he falls pass the top 10 we should trade up to get him.

Also you have Sweat as a top 5 pick?lol

If sweat is there at 10 and hurney doesnt get on the phone to at least inquire,I would be pissed. But i think there is a real chance he could be there. All the projections of him going top 10 are like the giants who could be thinking qb or haskins, tampa might like gary who knows. Maybe a lot of teams the the combine is trash and dont put value in that 4.41.

You didn't understand my post. Trades don't work like that. In order to SECURE sweat you're looking at top 5.

You need the pick before the team you know for sure is going to grab him. So if that's a team 6-9 one that wants him, and two won't trade, and the 10th pick is too late. You're looking at a top 5 pick in order to SECURE him.

He will not fall past 10, he just won't so. What you're suggesting is for him to fall to 9-10 and teams 10-13 don't want him as an obvious steal at that point and want to trade and want only a third from teams wanting him (which will be more than the Panthers if he falls that low). Not going to happen.

I’m not sure him falling past 10 is impossible. Kid had a heart condition and before his amazing 4.41 he was projected after 16. Now do teams value times and combined as much as we the fans and media...???? I guess time will tell. I don’t think it’s likely but certainly not impossible, Derwin James fell that low and he was projected top 5.

I just have a hard time believing he will but anything is possible. I haven’t heard the details on his heart condition either and it wouldn’t likely matter as I’m not a doctor but I read somewhere he’s always had this condition and it was never a hinderance.

All that really matters right now is who falls to 16. Usually top picks that fall do so around the 9-12 mark. Course that’s subjective because the top player at certain positions are most certainly there at 16.

Ugh, it is absolutely possible that Sweat drops to 16. Same with Burns and some others. Sweat blew away the combine, but people blew away pro days and the glow off of the 4.41 fades away when tape and everything else gets reviewed again. Oliver dropped due to no combine and then shot back up to maybe top 5 at his pro-day. QB pro days and private workouts could completely change the top 15.

I’d say there only a handful of guys who have no way to drop to us and that’s just Bosa, Allen, Q. Williams, Murray and IMHO, Oliver. There are enough solid DL, White, Greedy, OL and QBs that I can see any of the others could drop. We won’t know and some guys may be less likely but you can’t say they won’t. For instance, what if a team does really love Bradbury or Ford?

No way White drops out of top 10.

There’s only 15 picks before us gentlemen. You guys act like we pick 28th of something.

It all depends on the run on a particular position. Offensive tackle for example drops off tremendously so it’s possible teams take those guys first like Taylor, Williams, Ford and even Dillard so if that happens with 3 quarterbacks off too, there’s only so many other spots with Nick Allen Byron Murphy etc.

in that case there’s a real possibility of Sweat Burns Ferrell and even Ed Oliver being there at our pick.

if it’s the other way and everyone skips the OT and gets a run going on defense then it will be the other way. The best defense gone and we have our pick of the OT.

theres going to be butthurt,.. just accept it and buy some Vaseline

Solid post.  I especially  like the comment about combine workout warriors.  Would Sweat be top 15 if there was no internet or television coverage?  Personally, I am starting to like Burns more.
