new CBS 7 round mock--with trades

I wouldn't hate Gary at 16 depending on who else is still available, but don't think it makes sense to move up for him for multiple reasons. For one, there's a decent chance he's there at 16, so you're giving away a valuable pick and committing more salary for potentially no reason. Also, of all the edge rushers in the draft with a first round grade, he has the highest bust potential. If you're gonna trade up, you need to do it for a surefire star. Even if Gary lives up to his potential, you have to think it's gonna take him a few years. Then you've got maybe one or two years where you're actually getting him at a bargain salary before he'll be due for a ridiculous raise. So it's a hard pass for me on a potential trade up.

I think it’s hilarious seeing everyone freak out over the idea of hurney giving up some late picks to move up to get a guy he wants.

Have you people learned nothing from the past with hurney?

He’s money in the first and absolute garbage in the late rounds. Him trading away a third to go get a guy he wants is him dealing away what 98% of the time will amount to a practice squad player pick by him anyway.

If he’s dead set on someone in the first, ive got no problem with him dealing some late picks. However, if he trades a future first again we need to fire him out of one of those cannons at Raymond James stadium.

This... I think the general huddle mindset is so conservative and afraid to make a mistake that they feel they might miss out on something in the 3-5 round by trading up. Look at our history 3 on back... its mostly trash. most of our early picks are the ones that are still on the roster and have become house hold names.. if the guy you are pretty confident in is on the board and u want him go get him. dont wait and settle for less. I wouldnt want to give up a 1 or a 2. but if i can get to 12 by just giving u what a 3 and maybe a 5-6 im in.

When was Josh Norman and Greg Hardy drafted??

I’ll save you the embarrassment of me listing out all the late round failures hurney has drafted.

Ill also glance over the fact that you picked two guys who have had a combined two years of impact for this franchise.

You can do that list for every GM in history.. Nobody is even 50% efficient in the draft.. So what is your point..

Still goes against your point of Hurney "never finding talent late in the draft" .. I  just name 2 all pros so now what??

In general, I just simply dislike trading up. If you do so, it has to be for a sure thing. Gary isn't that by most accounts. The last time Hurney did it, iirc, was with Otah. That would have worked greatly but for the road grader's basically career ending injury.

I think my point is pretty clear but I’ll lay it out again for you since there seems to be some disconnect with your ability to understand it.

I am comfortable with hurney shipping off a third, fourth, or fifth round pick (ie Randy Fasani, Kyle Johnson, Aitayah Ellison, Stefan Lefors, Nate Salley) to move up to get a guy he feels can contribute the way guys like peppers, gross, gamble, Luke, Beason, Williams, Stewart, Thomas Davis, have contributed to the team.

Hurney is 9 out of 10 with his first round picks  his lone miss was Otah

He’s roughly 7 out of 41 in rounds 3-5, and that’s me being generous with guys like Evan Mathis who was terrible for us and Geoff Hangartner

This is a different Hurney and we have more than 1 need.. So he needs to keep his picks.. I'm comfortable in letting this new thinking Hurney work with a deeper than normal draft. You don't give up picks in a deep draft.. You try to get more of them...

Greg Hardy was constantly injured throughout college, otherwise he would have been a first rounder.

But he wasn't.. Brady was backing up Drew Henson and Todd Collins his whole UM career or he would have been a higher pick.... The point was Marty found all pro talent in later rounds..
