Speculation: Cardinals might already be negotiating with Kyler Murray

What would be the point?

Yep, nothing to gain.  You would've also set the expectation to your fanbase and lockerroom and to Rosen that you're moving on to a new QB. What if Murray falls down the stairs tomorrow and breaks his neck? What if say the Raiders call with an absurdly ridiculous trade offer that you can't pass up?

I think that Kingsbury may have a woodie for Murray, and he just may have convinced the brass to go all-in. If that's the case, then nothing us going to stop that deal.

And to those asking about the point @Moo Daeng and @LinvilleGorge, the threat of Murray doing a 180 and committing to baseball still looms out there...somewhere. Perhaps all this makes the Cards feel better.

That risk will be there until Murray established himself as a legit NFL QB. You better believe that if he disappoints as a rookie that MLB will come calling.

Negotiating a contract? Aren’t the rookie contracts set already?

The main point to agree upon is when the actual cash payout is done. If nothing is in the contract the cba says week to week but if I remember correctly Baker got all of it up front.

There is also offset language (if he is cut and resigned, money is payed back to the original team) by there is no way the first pick in the draft will agree to that.

A clause that says "You can't play baseball" probably isn't in the standard boilerplate contract for the #1 overall pick.

Now that makes sense. The first response that really does.  The rookie CBA already sets term and slots. The amount is set each league year. There’s some wiggle on others but not a lot to negotiate there.

I still think they are crazy wanting to draft him 1st overall.

I mean, has anyone else seen him in the Orange Bowl with Alabama? I just watched those highlights and they were of Alabama taking him down repeatedly over and over again.

He looks great with no pressure as many do— but Alabama gave him and us the best preview of what it’s going to look like in the NFL when teams really come after him.

it looked bad— and he’s half the size of RGKnee,..

whatever,... not my problem,.. just makes it a better chance a guy I like actually makes it to 16.

He looked good after OU took the initial punch. Made some good reads, got the ball over the defense, showed his ability to run, etc.

Couldn't read defenses but Jared Goff and Sean have shown that so long as the coach can be in the QB's ear, the QB doesn't have to read a defense.

I’m just saying I will believe he was the number 1 pick in 2 seasons he stays healthy for one and then shows the winning characteristics of a Number 1 drafted quarterback. Is he a Cam or Luck or Baker or Goff(Goff looked like a turd and then a true number 1 with Sean) or does he go the way of an RG3 or Micheal Vick or someone that can’t stay healthy?

the new rules help him tremendously for sure.

Every time Alabama and others brought a lot of pressure he could do nothing, got one hand tackled and pancaked quite a bit, threw bad etc.

of course when the offense spread them out and he got 4 seconds to throw he’s an MVP but that’s half of all quarterbacks.

from what I saw he can’t handle pressure. What look for is escapability, making quick reads under pressure and the ability to still deliver a clean football.

i think he’s a 2nd round pick at best.
