Would you be willing to trade a 2020 pick for Rosen?

Some in this fanbase without a doubt deserve another 2010 season.

The level of fickle around here is fugging embarrassing.

Or they want an actual backup?????

Rosen for a 3rd would be palpable if he is a quality backup with any upside. Or can we not dare bring anyone in because of #1?

Value. Rosen would definitely have value as a third rounder. Probably more value than anyone in this or next year's draft.

And as a third rounder, he's competition not an automatic heir-apparent. If Cam isn't injured, you don't move on from a franchise QB in his prime - yes he's actually in his prime if healthy. Yes, Cam will be expensive but that's the cost of doing business. Rosen won't be any less expensive by the time they'd have to extend Cam.

I would in a second but it's a pipe dream. It's been reported several teams have already offered their 2nd rounders. Zona wants a 1st and will probably get it.

I think that rumor is only about one team, but honestly who knows what to believe?

You may be absolutely right, but any team can try to put together something to get him if they believe he's worth it.

My thing is that it wasn't too long ago that he was a high first round pick, but now some Huddlers are trying to act like he is a UDFA. I mean, I can understand if you're a draftnik who doesn't think he's worth it for specific, well though-out reasons, but as is often the case, no one is really saying anything and living in unsupported generality land.

Sure.

Under contract long term, is healthy, could sit behind Cam and give the team a very good (hopefully) insurance policy in the case that we can't sign Cam long term, or if his shoulder will no longer hold up to a full NFL season.

If Cam bounces back, we sign him long term, and trade Rosen for at the very least a 3 or 4 after the 2019 season.

This isn't giving up on Cam, this is hedging your bets.

P.S. the smartest team in the league keeps drafting QB's over and over and over, and their particular starting QB has been healthier than ours over the past couple seasons.

You can spare us the cliche condescension about Cam being bigger than the team. That has no basis in reality.

I'd rather just see how things shake out this season and draft a QB next year.

Giving up a 3rd rounder this year for a "backup" QB with our dire needs in the trenches is not a plan I'm onboard with. This TEAM still has to be able to compete in our division. We need pass rush.

I know I’m against the grain on this but if Norv wants to give a third for Grier I think I wouldn’t mind.  To me it’s all about who is evaluating.  I trust Norv. He obviously sees something in him.    If it was RR I would run for the hills.  It’s the same with the CB’s we have looked at.  I trust Fewell. I’m glad we have made recent changes to our coaching Staff will quality guys.

Grier is blowing scouts away with his football IQ.  That is what you need in a #2 QB.  A smart, skilled game manager.  He can develop quickly and,, if needed, go in and manage the football game.  We now have enough skill people who can break a big play at any time--Moore, Samuel, CMC--those are 3 players who can dominate the open field----when have we EVER had that?   I will even go as far to say that if Cam  goes down, the  season is NOT over with Grier.  He simply needs to learn quickly and get the ball to  the best opportunity.

Why is this dude being shopped after one year being a top ten pick? I haven’t looked into it.

My question too.   Of  course, I am not sure I would draft a California QB in this era of the NFL--USC and UCLA  have had their share of busts.

Because its the same team that fired the Coach after one season and hired another coach that just got fired in College

Yes, Cam will be expensive but that's the cost of doing business. Rosen won't be any less expensive by the time they'd have to extend Cam.

Acquiring Rosen would ensure that we'd have him for at least the next three years, and we'd also have a fourth year option. That would give us time to develop and groom him while either Cam solidifies himself as an NFL great, or another good one that could never quite get to the top. On the other hand, if Cam is just irreparably damaged goods, then we'd have time to establish that as well, and if so Cam may just decide to move in a different direction. From what I gather, Cam's game has a lot to do with whether or not football is fun, so if things go south, he could be near the end of his run sooner than anyone expected.

I guess what I am saying is that now is the time to make a move for Cam's heir apparent. Unless he pulls a Brady or a Brees, I give him 8 more years (tops).  Rosen would be in his prime at that time. The question would become whether Rosen would extend with us, and how much it would cost. Even if Cam is flying high at 34, then we'd still be able to either trade Rosen (if he's considered all that) and recoup some value, or get a compensatory pick for the loss of his services.

It's all a calculation depending upon his perceived and real value as well as Cam's health.

My thoughts exactly. Dude could have gone #1 overall. Why do people act like he's an absolute bum. I mean I love Cam but I'm a Panther fan first. He had a rookie kind of year for what looked like a college team out there. Brady would have sucked behind that line. We have to at least be prepared if our hero has lost his wings. Blows my mind all the people saying no with as little as you offered in the trade scenario.

He didn't say this year.
