McCoy liked team chemistry, believes in Cam and Rivera

It was a fantastic sales pitch. I’m sure most teams do their own version of this kind of thing, but I’m guessing there’s a little more emphasis with the new regime at Mint St, Re: going the extra mile for these visits.

I’m glad to see the roster shaping up the way it is. It’s fun to joke around here and post GIFs, but I’m dead serious: this is a championship caliber roster.

McCoy/Short tandem affords Carolina a wealth of invaluable flexibility. Nickle—you now have two elite interior pass rushers against highly-immobile divisional QB’s who rely on clean pockets and adroit timing. This can wreck a team on 3rd and 7+. This also frees up Poe to focus exclusively on his role at NT, where he thrived in KC. 59 and 54 will be as dynamic as ever in base behind this front.

Stay healthy, play smart, coach smarter. This is about as loaded as it gets.

Poe looks about 100 pounds lighter than actuality in this graphic. He should be the biggest guy in the picture and instead he looks like he's the smallest by a significant margin.

It’s almost like being a player’s coach has advantages.

This.

RR will be running the defense and is absolutely loved by the players.  Mccoy is coming from Tampa where he had what, 3 head coaches?  This is one situation where RR's relationship with players payed off.

Great point. Stability! Players like teams with a culture not a turnstile.

Everybody is talking about the 3-4 but just imagine how much better our 4-3 could look this season. The rotation will be crazy. The front four is fearsome once more.

I'm liking that the defense is adding on 3-4 concepts and planning multiple fronts. Rivera's toybox got filled this season, him and Washington are some very happy dudes today. Time to work!

Makes this even more impressive.

He realized his most competitive spot is going to be here. Plus division rival old team that left on sour terms.

Plus I’m pretty sure the highest overall paycheck was here. Even if they did offer more guaranteed.

I really hope we don’t go vanilla 3-4. I’d much prefer to see hybrid and still nickel.

    • I don't see it as drafting a premium player to sit and wait if Walker gets hurt. We need a legitimate swing T. Unless you have a Sewell or Slater type tackle that is pretty much a sure thing, these guys can need some time to develop year 1 just like a QB ideally should. They all haven't played the elite 5 star talent on the edge. If we think another franchise tackle has dropped to us at 19, you have to pull the trigger. The position is just too damn hard to find. If it's just a "we need a tackle and this guy has a T on the board", yeah, move on, take one in the later rounds. But if that guy is there, let him back up and learn a year, then slide him into LT on year 2 of his rookie deal.  I don't see us being able to offer Walker a multi year contract after a prove it year, pay Moton his final almost fully guaranteed year, Hunt, Lewis a center and do a 50-60m extension for Bryce. The 3 most important positions on the field are QB, blindside tackle (usually LT), and edge rusher. Those are the premium positions that cost the most and are hardest to come by. If a starting caliber talent is there at 19 you have to pull the trigger.  I understand the need for a DT and S. I've been on the C and FS train for years. If we weren't staring at a potential Bryce extension, it'd make the decision a lot easier I think. It's just with all these huge contracts I don't see how we can hedge our bets on being able or even wanting to re-sign Walker, especially if he has a bad year. Icky and BC's injuries really hurt our long term plans.  If no blue chip talent at those 3 key positions are available at 19, by all means pass and draft another position. But I think it's pretty safe to say we don't have a guaranteed lock at any of them right now beyond Phillips, and they have to be somewhat of a priority.
    • Not completely accurate. I'm sure Roy is lobbying for him and Larry Brown has spoke put in support too. But Hansbrough has made comments pretty critical and hinting at a need for change. Joel Berry has gone a step further and said the standard has not been met. Scott Williams who was a teammate of Hubert's at Carolina has gone all the way and said it's time for a change at head coach.
    • 4.25 according to the ACC network broadcast. If only this guy was a couple years younger but he’s still a dawg.
