The NFL proposes idiotic 18 game solution

From what I have read, likely quarterbacks and speciality guys like kickers will be exempt. Second the players won't play more they will play less especially if they shorten the preseason. Players don't get paid for the preseason just the 16 games so if you went to 18 then non-exempt players would either make more or get paid less per game than an exempt player. Practice squad would get 2 more paychecks since they might not play at all but will be active for potentially 18 games. Rosters would be expanded. I could see this benefitting players as well.

The NFL don't want the backups to play, especially backup QBs. The announcers constantly admitted this when Aaron Rodgers was hurt. About how the matchup simply wasn't as exciting because Bret Hundley was starting. Their logic: let's add two more games! Yeah so more marquee QBs can be injured and missing from the marquee matchups.

The owners are counting on pressure from the Coaching staffs and fan bases to "convince" players to take one for the team

Coaches will not like this. No fan base is going to go for this bs even if they exempt QB's. You pay full price, if not more, for tickets for a game 2 months from now. Your son gets all hyped, you buy a Kuechly jersey for him because Luke is his favorite player. You get to the stadium early to watch warm ups and -BAM- it's one of Luke's games off. How pissed are you going to be??

I think the players sitting out 2 games is stupid.  I am however in favor of an 18 game schedule.  And so should the players.  The players sit there an complain they are not compensated enough compaired to other sports.  Well the don’t play 82 or 162 games like other sports.  So  if they want to close that gap they would have to increase the schedule to close that revenue gap.

But of course they won’t.  They just want the money.  Yes I’m talking to your dumb ass Todd Gurley.

Despite the far fewer games, the NFL drives almost double the revenue of the NBA and roughly 50% more than MLB.

Here comes Keanu Reeves and the replacements,....

im sure people grumbled forever when baseball added 10 games a year,.. football went from 14 to 16 games,..

change causes grumbling,.. some people get excited and some people go all traditionalist.

none of us can do anything about it, just watch or don’t watch when it happens.

Under this proposal, there would be 18 regular season games but individual players would only be eligible to play in 16 of them per season.

What in the actual fug is this?! LOL!

That’s the dumbest poo I have ever seen in my life.

At the end of the day, the league will go with the option that brings in money.

Now if we're fantasizing about what will bring a better product and something that benefits the talent and pushes for more competitiveness amongst rosters? 11 game regular season.

This COULD mean a league restructure. Four divisions within two conferences is a possibility. Would make your schedule 8 in division, 3 out. Or keep current structure, play 8 out of division, 3 in. This would make divisional games VERY meaningful, but could be more chaotic for playoff seeding if you have two identical records within the same division (tie breakers would be simple enough but would leave bad tastes in mouths).

Regardless of fantasies, 18 games is too damn much for football.

Not sure how feasible it is, but my idea:
-seventeen games (eight home, eight road, one international)
-two preseason games
-three byes (one has to be after your international game)
-your Thursday game comes after a bye
-Super Bowl on the day before President’s Day (many people are already off)
-your international opponent is from the division in the opposing conference that you played the previous season and finished in the same position
-every team has a home away from home in Europe.  Each European city  has an AFC and an NFC team (A city like London could have more).  AFC is the home team in even years and NFC is the home team in odd years.  Ex. if the Panthers and Bengals are Berlin then fans there get to see one of their two teams each year, thus building fan bases.  This allows for European fans to have teams to follow and raises interest without having to deal with all the logistics of having a full time team there.
-international games are on at 9am or whatever and are split between the two networks so each one gets eight extra games in a new time slot
-all player contracts and the salary cap are automatically increased by 1/16 to accommodate this seventeenth game
-Opening week has two prime time games on Thursday, Friday, and Monday the way they do now for MNF.  On Sat and Sun each network has a 1 and 430 with one prime time game.  So all teams are nationally televised and all fans get to see their teams opening match
