A.Brown not happy with helmet requirements

Raleigh PF

Recommended Posts

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the helmet Antonio Brown wants to use was tested in a lab, and it failed.

Brown is so frustrated with the league's helmet policy that he's left Raiders camp again. Raiders GM Mike Mayock was forced to make a statement at Sunday's practice, and he didn't hold back. Mayock said the Raiders need to know if Brown is "all in or all out" and that they can only "hope" that Brown joins the team for Week 1. As of now, Brown is nowhere to be found, and there's no timeline of when, or if, he'll show up. The Raiders believe Brown's feet are healthy enough to practice fully, so he'll be ready to play the second he wants to.

idk, maybe he's just trying to get out of training camp.  and after watching episode 2 of hard knocks - david carr, well if i was forced to sit down for dinner with him, or god forbid a 30 minute car ride, i might stab myself in the eyes with a fork.

For anyone still interested in this whole "scenario"

Here are the grades for the independent STAR helmet rating system where the lower score = better (Note that this is not performed through the NFL)

https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/varsity-football-helmet-ratings.html

And here is the ratings for helmets no longer produced which includes AB's Schutt Air Advantage

That thing is rated as a 2 star helmet and this man is literally using safety as his argument to continue to use it lol

David Carr comes across too phony and try hard on Hard Knocks

While it’s possible, how many concussions has he suffered. I only remember that Burfict hit.

I will counter that it’s kind of a big leap to assume every football player is mentally stable and that only CTE makes them nuts. I’m fairly certain that Aaron Hernandez was a criminal way before Florida and the NFL. Why should we assume that Brown hasn’t always been this way but until he became a stud he kept a bit more quiet to make sure he got a payday? Sort of like the old adage about what changes in a relationship after marriage.

Money and fame also play a part too.  When you know the world is watching, some people like to feed into that and I think AB is the type of guy that likes the spotlight.  Saying things like quitting football forever over a helmet is easy fuel to keep that fire burning.

    • If you need someone to run your multi-billion dollar business, maaayyyybe don't hire a guy whose previous work experience includes repeated blows to the head and literal brain damage but IDK.
    • Extrapolate that with every QB for that matter. I guarantee you there's quite a bit of missed opportunities and yards left on the field for everyone. Many NFL QBs deal with WRs not putting in A+ effort, subpar o-line play and other deficiencies. The great ones are able to rise above these issues and create opportunities for plays. Guys like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes can both play in and out of structure, as well as find ways to get yards when things break down and mask mistakes by throwing guys open, creating opportunities from nothing, etc. Bryce Young has only shown he's able to make things happen when the rest of the team picks up his slack. Very rarely does he create those opportunities himself. When this is a consistent pattern year after year with Bryce where he shows up lackluster, it's a concern. This is year three and he should be elevating the team as a first overall pick this franchise traded up for.  He was far from elevating anyone against JAX. In fact, he needed others to elevate and create for him. Excuses may be fine for a rookie, but this is year three for the first overall pick. Not looking good so far.
    • I think the worst issue is coaching. Countless bad snaps, XL not getting his feet in or trying on runs plays, our centre being down field when he didn't need to be. All seem to be from poor coaching for me. I believe Canales is to soft to rip the players a new one when the fug up. Plus I honestly believe that Canales is slow getting his plays in giving Bryce less time to diagnose and adjust to the defence. Don't worry I could of head butted Bryce for that fumble and the 4th down throw aways but the other plays are explainable to me
